Job Description:

This recruitment will be used to fill up to 10 part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) Student Early Care and Education Assistant at Oregon State University Cascades.

OSU-Cascades and COCC have collaborated on an opportunity for students to participate in a paid internship. Students will have the option to work with a partner in an early learning setting to serve Central Oregon families. Students are required to work in an early childhood program providing care for infants to children age.Students will work under the direct supervision of a classroom teacher and a faculty mentor to learn skills in early learning that can be applied immediately to a job in Central Oregon.

Participants will receive:

  • $18.50/hour while working in your career field for up to 24 hours a week

  • Up to 45 academic credits, saving up to $12,000 in tuition and fees (based on enrollment)

  • Career placement advising after completion

  • Flexibility in placement at child care center in Deschutes County

  • Experience that meets state ELD qualifications to be an early learning childcare teacher

The Undergraduate Student Outreach Assistant performs a variety of work related to outreach programs, including assistance at camps, youth programs, nutrition and education programs, and physical activity courses.

Position Duties:

  • Assist in the implementation of a developmentally appropriate, play-based, culturally responsive, and equity-oriented interactions with infants, toddlers, and/or preschool-aged children.

  • Prepare and maintain a safe, attractive, neat, and functional environment, both indoors and outdoors, and utilize the environment as a teaching tool.

  • Assist with bottle preparation and/or preparing lunch and snacks for children.

  • Collaborate with teachers and staff members to create and deliver developmentally appropriate, play-based, culturally responsive, and equity-oriented interactions with infants, toddlers, and/or preschool-aged children.

  • Form a positive, supportive team atmosphere with other teachers and staff members.

  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study

  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment

  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard

    • High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program

    • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term

    • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*

    • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term

    • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*


*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered "full-time" by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by theOffice of International Services(OIS) and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience caring for children 0-5 years old

  • Demonstrable contributions to promoting and enhancing diversity

  • Oregon DELC Background Clearance- Criminal Background Registry (CBR)

  • OSU Background Clearance

  • Student will need to also meet any required qualifications of the partner organization supervising at the internship site.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a licensed early care and education center
