Job description

About the Role:
Accent on Languages is seeking professional Over-the-Phone (OPI) and Video Remote Interpreters (VRI) to support a critical project involving medical, 911, intervention, and social services calls. This is a freelance/contractor (1099) position offering flexible work hours.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide accurate and professional OPI/VRI interpretation for medical, emergency response (911), intervention, and social services calls.
  • Adhere to ethical standards, confidentiality, and professional conduct as required for sensitive interactions.
  • Demonstrate cultural competence and the ability to remain neutral while facilitating communication.
  • Follow client-specific guidelines, terminology, and protocols for various service areas.
  • Ensure clear, accurate, and efficient communication between Limited English Proficient (LEP) individuals and service providers.

Requirements:
  • Must reside in California or be able to travel to a local office in California when required.
  • Fluency in English and at least one other language, with strong listening and speaking skills.
  • Experience in medical interpretation
  • Strong understanding of interpreter ethics, confidentiality (including HIPAA compliance), and professional standards.
  • Reliable high-speed internet connection and a quiet, professional workspace for remote interpretation.
  • Ability to handle high-pressure situations with professionalism and accuracy.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • DOJ, CACI, or FBI clearance to work with Children and Family Services (CFS) highly preferred.
  • Certification or training in medical, legal, or community interpretation (e.g., CCHI, NBCMI, RID, or state court certification).
  • Previous experience in remote interpretation platforms and familiarity with industry-standard tools.

This position will require the candidate to visit a local California office to obtain a live scan. Please only apply if you have the mobility and ability to do so.
