Job description

JOB TITLE: Supv Relay Construction & Maintenance 
REQUISITION: TRA010D     
DEPARTMENT: Relay Systems Protection EKC - Wichita Service Center
LOCATION: Wichita, KS
PAY RANGE: $106,000 - $141,300

Scheduled Work Hours:  Monday - Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.  (Additional hours as required) 
Summary of Primary Duties and Responsibilities: 
Duties include supervising a team of skilled relay technicians to maintain, troubleshoot and repair all types of medium and high voltage substation equipment and protection and control systems. This includes substation trouble response, routine maintenance, routine inspection, equipment repair or replacement, construction and system support in Transmission, Distribution and Generation substations.  Incumbent will be responsible for covering other supervisor vacations and absences. Incumbent will be expected to become familiar with personnel, systems, and operations of the Northeast and other Kansas Regions.  

    Sets the standard for safety, quality and productivity through clear and frequent communications with the Substation and Relay C&M staff. 
    Fully supports and actively participates in efforts to improve system reliability, including RCM studies, predictive maintenance, root cause analysis, planning & scheduling of the work, and setting high expectations for precision maintenance. 
    Works collaboratively with Planning & Scheduling to develop and manage a weekly schedule that supports the operational needs of the region and makes daily work assignments based on a weekly schedule and any necessary reassignments. 
    Documentation and recordkeeping of annual relay system testing efforts.  The records are auditable by regulatory bodies such and FERC and NERC. .  
    Serve as a technical point of contact for coordinating work and response for major customers within coverage area 

Education and Experience Requirements: 
A high school diploma and four years of substation maintenance or related experience is required.  An associates or bachelor degree is preferred.  Related experience includes knowledge of all types of substation electrical equipment, system protection and control, and SCADA. The preferred candidate will have previous supervisory experience or a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with proven leadership skills.   
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Required: 
Set direction for employees, developing and empowering them as required, so that morale, motivation and customer focus combine to result in timely and efficient completion of construction and maintenance responsibilities.

    Knowledge of the Evergy electrical operating system as it applies to generation, transmission and distribution relaying is preferred.  Eagerness and ability to learn Evergy operating procedures is required.   
    Ensure the safety and welfare of the workforce and the public through fair and consistent application and enforcement of all safety rules, work rules and construction standards. 
    Contribute toward the enhancement of the management/bargaining unit partnership through consistent communication and fair enforcement of bargaining unit contracts, resolving legitimate grievances at first step. 
    Proactively identify and remove obstacles that impede efficient utilization of resources and timely completion of jobs. 
    Prioritize, schedule, and complete construction of internally and externally generated work, communication and coordinating with all concerned parties to ensure that all schedules are realistically met. 
    Work with Substation Engineering, System Protection, and all dispatching groups to efficiently and effectively conduct the business of the constructing and maintaining substation and relay equipment.  
    Work to support all departments for the safe and orderly and timely completion of their projects as required. 
    Must be able to make sound, clear, time sensitive decisions including recognition of flawed information as it is received.   
    Must have good communication skills, be a team player and be able to work effectively with all levels of employees and customers.   
    Must be a self-starter with excellent multi-tasking skills.  Must be able to recognize and shift priorities to meet system and labor requirements.   
    Must have excellent software skills.  

Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required: 
Valid driver's license 
Working Conditions: 
Position will require travel on a regular basis.  Position requires accountability and commitment to meet current workload, project deadlines, and service restoration efforts.  Must have a satisfactory work record including good attendance and safety record. Will be required to respond to any and all after hours calls for Wichita area or as established by the Relay C&M department.
