Home Based Radiology Research information

What is home based radiology research?

Home based radiology research involves conducting studies, data analysis, literature reviews, and other scholarly activities in the field of radiology from a remote or home setting. Researchers in this role may analyze medical images, write scientific papers, and collaborate with colleagues online, all without needing to be physically present in a hospital or university lab. This flexible work arrangement has become more popular with advances in digital imaging and secure data sharing, allowing radiology professionals to contribute to scientific progress while working remotely.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a home based radiology researcher?

To excel as a Home Based Radiology Researcher, strong analytical skills, a background in radiology or medical imaging, and often an advanced degree (such as MSc or PhD) are required. Familiarity with imaging analysis software (like OsiriX or MATLAB), scientific databases, and possibly certifications in research ethics or clinical trials is essential. Excellent written communication, self-motivation, and attention to detail are critical soft skills for remote collaboration and accurate data interpretation. These competencies ensure high-quality research outcomes, reliable data analysis, and effective contribution to the scientific community from a remote setting.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in home based radiology research, and how can they be addressed?

Home-based radiology researchers often face challenges such as limited access to imaging equipment, maintaining data security, and ensuring effective collaboration with clinical teams. To address these, it's important to establish secure remote access to hospital PACS systems, use encrypted data-sharing platforms, and schedule regular virtual meetings with collaborators. Staying proactive in communication and utilizing specialized software for remote image analysis can help maintain research productivity and integration with broader research teams.

Job description

Description

Who we are: Advanced Radiology Services is one of the largest 100% physician-owned radiology practices in the country. Our growing practice includes 180 radiologists, 30 advanced practice providers, and 175 employees providing administrative support in our wholly owned subsidiary STARS. We value diversity on our team and promote a culture of inclusion.

What we do: We provide services to more than 60 different sites across the state of Michigan. ARS is the exclusive radiology provider to Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo. Bronson is a 415 bed, non-profit teaching hospital that serves a 9-county region in southwest Michigan and northern Indiana.  Our comprehensive Interventional Radiology service performs over 30,000 procedures a year.

What we are looking for: We have a position currently available for an Interventional Radiologist in Kalamazoo. This is a partnership track position and will join four other full time IR physicians. We have an outstanding team of 8 Advanced Practice Providers rounding and performing minor procedures to support you.

Responsibilities:

This position would be greater than 90% interventional radiology with some general diagnostic radiology responsibilities.

The IR practice covers a wide spectrum of inpatient and outpatient interventional procedures, including interventional oncology, vertebral augmentation, TIPS, ablations, trauma embolization, GIB embolization, PAE, pulmonary thrombectomy, venous intervention, central venous access including implanted ports, peripheral vascular disease, biopsies, pain management procedures, diagnosis/treatment of vascular malformations, etc.

Call responsibilities are shared between the 5 physicians for the year- ~ 50 weekdays per year. Physicians are given the day off after call or paid extra if they need to work that day (or choose to work that day). This time is in addition to 13 weeks of vacation.

Why is our practice unique? We strive to offer the best of both worlds- private practice flexibility and compensation with academic options. In affiliation with Western Michigan University Homer Stryker School of Medicine, our radiologists have opportunities to teach and mentor medical students and pursue research if desired. We also have an interventional radiology residency program in Grand Rapids which will allow our physicians opportunity for teaching remotely if desired.

Due to the size and breadth of the healthcare systems we support, diagnostic volume and variety of clinical exposure is unrivaled.  We also have quarterly peer review meetings to promote continued learning.

We find that entrepreneurial minded physicians who value involvement in decision making and developing our business strategy fit well. Participation in section, committee and board meetings is not required but welcomed from day one.

Compensation/Benefits: We are currently offering a 50K recruitment incentive which is payable upon signing. We offer a competitive compensation package and opportunities for increased compensation by picking up additional shifts on a month to month basis. Our physicians pay nothing for medical/dental/vision coverage and enjoy an $18,000 medical reimbursement account annually. We also contribute the maximum amount allowed to the 401K plan ($72,000 in 2026). We offer 13 weeks of vacation for our standard track positions, and a new 6-week paid parental leave benefit to coordinate with the 12 weeks of FMLA.

Why do you want to live here? Kalamazoo is located midway between Chicago and Detroit and home to Western Michigan University and Kalamazoo College. Largely due to its college-town influence, Kalamazoo has a vibrant and progressive downtown with great eateries, eclectic shops and a nationally known craft beer industry. It is home to Bells, the largest and longest operating Michigan based brewery. With a rich and diverse community culture, Kalamazoo offers historic neighborhoods, outstanding museums and theatres, and many gorgeous lakes. Kalamazoo is also only 38 miles from South Haven which is located on the beautiful shores of Lake Michigan. If you are raising a family, Kalamazoo offers an amazing and unique opportunity. Introduced in 2005, the Kalamazoo Promise provides any student who graduates from a Kalamazoo Public School and meets the basic requirements up to 100% of tuition for any in state public community college or university.

Requirements

  • Certified by the ABR or AOBR
  • Completion of interventional radiology fellowship or equivalent experience
