About the Role

STRATA Networks is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Outside Plant Engineer to join our Engineering team. In this critical role, you will design, plan, and manage outside plant (OSP) infrastructure projects that support the expansion and maintenance of our advanced telecommunications network. From fiber-to-the-home deployments to business and wireless connectivity projects, you will play a key role in delivering innovative broadband solutions throughout the communities we serve.

The ideal candidate is a collaborative problem-solver with strong engineering and project management skills, a passion for technology, and a commitment to delivering high-quality solutions that help connect rural Utah to the future.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you'll:

  • Design and manage outside plant (OSP) projects, including fiber-optic and copper network infrastructure serving residential, business, cellular, and network facilities.
  • Prepare staking sheets, construction drawings, project documentation, and material tabulations.
  • Coordinate project execution with Engineering, Logistics, Construction, Facilities, contractors, and other stakeholders.
  • Assist with maintaining accurate network records, mapping systems, and infrastructure documentation.
  • Support the upkeep of plant records, ensuring updates are reflected in maps and engineering databases.
  • Provide mapping, reporting, and technical information to management as needed.
  • Participate in strategic planning initiatives and long-term network development projects.
  • Coordinate with local, state, and federal agencies regarding permits, road construction projects, utility coordination, and infrastructure planning.
  • Assist with special projects, including regulatory mapping requirements, internal GIS initiatives, and network planning activities.
  • Conduct occasional field visits to evaluate project sites and verify engineering designs.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
What You Bring to the Team

To be successful, you'll need:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a related engineering field.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites as needed.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and Google Earth.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work effectively across all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new technologies, systems, and processes.
  • Confidence and professionalism when interacting with customers, suppliers, government agencies, and internal teams.
  • Experience in road design, utility coordination, and surveying.
  • Experience with drafting, mapping, and GIS platforms.
  • Telecommunications, broadband, utility, or related infrastructure experience preferred.
Work Environment and Conditions
  • Primary work location is STRATA Networks' Roosevelt Business Office.
  • Position involves a combination of office-based engineering work and occasional field visits.
  • Regular interaction with internal departments, contractors, vendors, and government entities.
  • Some local travel may be required for site evaluations, project coordination, and utility planning activities.
  • Work schedules are generally business hours, with flexibility as needed to meet project deadlines and operational requirements.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to travel to outdoor project sites and navigate uneven terrain when conducting field visits.
  • Frequent use of computers, engineering software, and standard office equipment.
  • May occasionally be required to stand, walk, bend, reach, and lift project materials or equipment up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to review construction sites, utility infrastructure, and mapping information in both office and field environments.
