Job description

Job Summary:
Piper Networks is a leading provider of advanced rail positioning and safety systems for the transit industry. They are seeking a Point Cloud Data Analyst to analyze lidar scans and ensure their alignment to create accurate railway maps. This role requires attention to detail and the ability to work methodically through repetitive tasks.
Responsibilities:
• Using provided software tools manually adjust the position and rotation of frames that didn't align automatically, matching reference points until the geometry lines up cleanly.
• Work through large batches of frames methodically, checking work section by section
• Maintain a consistent standard of output quality across long sessions, even when the task is repetitive.
Qualifications:
Required:
• Are you a college student, home for the summer or recently graduated high school student looking for a temporary job for the summer
• passionate, detail-oriented individuals
• reliable schedule, working Monday - Friday from 8:30am to 5:00pm
• analyze a series of lidar scans that, when aligned correctly create a map of a portion of a railway
• verifying the output of the automated tools
• manually adjusting individual scans until they overlap seamlessly
• patience and a keen eye for detail
• Using provided software tools manually adjust the position and rotation of frames that didn't align automatically, matching reference points until the geometry lines up cleanly
• Work through large batches of frames methodically, checking work section by section
• Maintain a consistent standard of output quality across long sessions, even when the task is repetitive
• Very detail oriented
• Strong, systematic approach to work
• Ability to pick up software tools quickly
• Can focus on detailed, repetitive work for long periods of time
Preferred:
• Proven ability to meet output targets without sacrificing accuracy
• Experience in a role that required sustained precision — quality control, editing, technical illustration, or similar
• Background working with spatial data or 3D software (hobby level included)
