Familiarity with basic packaging equipment, digital inventory systems, or courier apps may be beneficial, though in-depth technical knowledge is rarely required. Job description

Title: House Manager & Family Assistant
Location: Seattle, WA 98109 (Queen Anne)
Employment Type: Part-time (30-35 hours/week)
Proposed Start Date: ASAP
Compensation: $32-$35/hour, based on experience
Requirements: Able to maintain a smoke-free environment, pass background check, has reliable transportation, up-to-date routine vaccinations, CPR certified not required but preferred
Proposed Schedule:
  • Monday-Friday, approximately 11:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m., plus one evening per week to support a parent date night (either Thursday or Saturday)
  • Schedule may adjust slightly based on travel, childcare needs, and household priorities, with clear communication and advance planning

About Our Family:
We're a busy family with a 16-month-old son and a very fluffy dog. Both parents work full time and travel occasionally, and we're planning to grow our family in the coming years. We're also in the midst of an exciting transition as we move into a larger home and build out the systems needed to support a growing household.
We're looking for someone who can step confidently into this role and help manage a larger household, keeping everything running smoothly behind the scenes so our evenings and weekends can be focused on family time. This position blends household management, family support, and light childcare, with responsibilities that include overseeing household systems and vendors, managing day-to-day logistics, daycare pickup, cooking a few nights per week, and providing backup childcare when needed.
Who You Are:
You naturally take initiative and enjoy keeping a household running smoothly behind the scenes. You work independently with confidence, communicate clearly and thoughtfully, and take pride in creating order and consistency in a busy family home. You genuinely enjoy being around young children and dogs, and you're looking for a long-term role where trust, reliability, and partnership matter.
Our ideal candidate is:
  • Proactive and self-directed, spotting what needs to be done and taking action
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with strong follow-through
  • A clear, kind communicator who keeps parents informed with thoughtful updates
  • Comfortable working independently while staying aligned with the family's priorities
  • Calm, dependable, and patient-especially with a toddler and day-to-day messes
  • Prideful in maintaining a home that feels stocked, orderly, and well-run
  • Interested in being a trusted, long-term part of a family's life

Key Responsibilities:
Household Management & Organization:
  • Oversee household operations in a large home (~7,000 sq ft), helping establish efficient systems as the family settles into a new space
  • Reset and tidy main living areas daily (wipe surfaces, vacuum high-traffic areas, load/unload dishwasher, etc.)
  • Hire, manage, and provide quality control for cleaning services
  • Create, maintain, and execute a recurring home maintenance schedule for daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and seasonal tasks
  • Lead the setup and organization of household systems (closets, storage, pantry), collaborating with family on preferences while owning execution
  • Manage seasonal swaps (clothing, décor, bedding)
  • Prepare for holidays, guest stays, and family events
  • Coordinate donations, packing/unpacking, and travel preparation
  • Supervise and coordinate vendors, both ongoing and ad hoc (handymen, plumbers, window washers, holiday décor installers, etc.)
  • Maintain indoor plants

Meal Preparation:
  • Collaborate on meal planning and grocery lists to support the week ahead
  • Prepare dinner up to two nights per week aligned with family preferences
  • Grocery shop for meal ingredients and household needs as part of weekly planning
  • Clean and reset the kitchen after meal prep
  • Accommodate dietary needs and restrictions (including poppy seed allergy)

Inventory Management & Errands:
  • Track and restock pantry, fridge, toiletries, and household supplies
  • Create and manage running household supply lists
  • Coordinate household orders (Amazon, Costco, Target, etc.)
  • Run errands: grocery shopping, returns, dry cleaning, gift shopping, knife sharpening
  • Handle mail, packages, and deliveries

Deep Cleaning & Maintenance:
  • Coordinate and manage periodic deep-cleaning services as needed (e.g., baseboards, upholstery, rugs, window treatments, high-detail areas)
  • Oversee organization and reset of the attic playroom, including toy rotation and storage systems
  • Ensure original woodwork and detailed finishes are properly maintained and free of dust buildup

Laundry & Linen Care:
  • Wash, dry, fold, and organize family laundry
  • Handle delicates with care (wool sweaters, hang-dry items, occasional hand-washing)
  • Steam clothing after travel or unpacking
  • Rotate bedding and towels biweekly
  • Keep laundry areas organized and well-stocked

Pet Care
  • Walk dog regularly; visit dog park approximately once per week
  • Schedule and coordinate grooming appointments (every 6 weeks)
  • Keep pet supplies stocked and organized
  • Optional: open to occasional pet sitting when family is traveling

Vehicle Management
  • Schedule and oversee vehicle maintenance, oil changes, and inspections
  • Keep vehicles fueled and organized regularly; fully detailed twice per year
  • Handle ad-hoc needs (e.g., taking a car for repair estimates)

Family Support & Child Assistance
  • Pick up child from daycare (typically 5:00-5:30 p.m.) and communicate any notes, updates, or cubby needs from the day
  • Provide one standing evening of babysitting per week to support a regular parent date night (day agreed upon in advance, ideally Thursday or Saturday)
  • Provide occasional backup childcare during daycare closures, parent travel, or unexpected schedule gaps

Deep Cleaning & Special Projects
  • Maintain quality control on cleanliness and organization
  • Reset and organize playroom (including large attic play space)
  • Care for original woodwork and high-detail areas in the new home
  • Coordinate quarterly deep cleans with vendors
  • Seasonal outdoor upkeep (deck sweeping, power washing, planter care)

Administrative & Personal Support
  • Maintain awareness of family calendars and schedules to anticipate daycare closures, work travel, and coverage needs, proactively arranging backup childcare or dog care when required, or coordinating additional support as needed
  • Assist with travel logistics and planning
  • Support Airbnb preparation and maintenance for rental home (hot tub oversight, vendor coordination as needed)
