Job description

Company Description Foothills Humane Society is a nonprofit animal welfare organization dedicated to the compassionate care, safety, and placement of companion animals. Located in Columbus, NC, the organization focuses on responsible pet adoptions, community outreach, and humane education. The team works closely with local partners, volunteers, and supporters to reduce pet overpopulation and improve animal well-being. Foothills Humane Society values collaboration, integrity, and respect in its work with both animals and people.
Role Description The Adoptions Coordinator is a full-time, on-site role based at Foothills Humane Society in Columbus, NC. This position is responsible for guiding potential adopters through the adoption process, including reviewing applications, conducting interviews, and matching animals with appropriate homes. In this role the Adoptions Coordinator also plans and executes social media promotions and campaigns for adoptable animals. The Adoptions Coordinator maintains accurate records, updates animal profiles, and ensures that all adoption paperwork and fees are completed in alignment with organizational policies. Daily tasks include answering phone calls and emails, greeting visitors, providing information about available animals, and offering post-adoption support and resources. Role also entails scheduling adoption events in the community and preparing for/ attending or staffing the events. The role also collaborates with animal care staff, veterinary partners, fosters and volunteers to monitor animal behavior and health, support adoption events, and promote a positive, inclusive experience for all community members.
Qualifications
  • Experience in customer service, client-facing roles, or community outreach, with the ability to communicate clearly, patiently, and respectfully with diverse individuals and families.
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills, including data entry, recordkeeping, scheduling, and managing multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Comfort working directly with animals of various sizes and temperaments, including safe handling, observation of behavior, and adherence to animal care and safety protocols.
  • Proficiency with basic computer applications (e.g., email, spreadsheets, databases); experience with shelter management or CRM software is a plus.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in adoption decisions, maintain confidentiality, and follow established procedures and regulations.
  • Capability to work on-site, including weekends and occasional evenings or events, and to perform physical tasks such as standing, walking, and lifting up to moderate weights as needed.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education or training in animal science, social services, or a related field is beneficial.
  • Prior experience in animal sheltering, rescue, veterinary clinics, or nonprofit organizations is preferred but not required.
