Job description

We are seeking a Home Loans Portfolio Manager for the Home Loans Department.

The Home Loans Portfolio Manager for NOLA will lead underwriting, closing, secondary marketing, collections, and foreclosure functions for Credit Human’s Home Loan business in New Orleans. This role supports Credit Human’s mission of helping members build financial slack by ensuring compliant, efficient mortgage operations, strong investor file quality, sound credit risk management, effective loss mitigation strategies, process improvements that reduce friction for applicants, and required NMLS registration.

  • Lead and develop high-performing home loan teams focused on compliant, efficient originations.
  • Drive process innovation across underwriting, closing, collections, and collateral remarketing to improve quality, speed, and member value.
  • Shape portfolio strategy by analyzing loan performance trends, recommending credit guidelines, and supporting sustainable growth.
  • Partner with Home Loan Production leaders to evaluate products and services that best support Credit Human members.
  • Manage loss mitigation and non-performing loan processes to reduce risk and maximize recovery.
  • Ensure strong compliance practices and a positive image with internal partners, auditors, regulators, and stakeholders.

Experience:

    Required

  • 7 years of experience managing, underwriting, collecting, foreclosing, and mitigating losses for 1st and 2nd lien mortgage loans.
  • 5 years of experience managing managers.
  • Expert knowledge of Fannie Mae underwriting and documentation standards.

   Preferred

  • 5 years of experience in portfolio underwriting
  • 5 years of experience managing a New Orleans Home Loans portfolio.

 Education:

    Required

  • Bachelor’s degree or 15 years of the work experience listed above

 Licenses & Certifications:

    Required

  • Registration as Mortgage Loan Originator (MLO) with National Mortgage Licensing System and Registry

    Preferred

  • NMLS registered

Skills & Knowledge:

    Required

  • Mastery of leadership skills, including business acumen, persuasive communication, effective delegation, and empowering and developing people.
  • Skilled at developing, interpretation, implementing, and complying with policies and standards for credit and collections.
  • Understanding and management of credit risk theory and the application of knowledge to create desired loan performance.
  • Detailed knowledge of and experience in all functions required to lead a compliant and effective mortgage lending operation.
  • Understanding of laws and regulations pertaining to home lending and collecting.
  • Able to proactively solve problems by understanding its root cause and implementing systemic solutions.
  • Gather, analyze, and utilize conclusions from empirical data when making decisions that affect current and future business.
  • Ability to lead others to achieve desired results.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Mathematical skills to execute statistical computations.
  • Persuasive communication and analysis skills.
  • Ability to organize and direct company resources.
  • Must be able to represent Credit Human in a professional manner within the business community.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships.
  • Basic understanding of the concept of determining productive capacity and its utilization.
  • Basic knowledge of financial statements.

Schedule: Default is Monday-Friday, 8:30 am-5:30 pm

Compensation Details:

Paygrade: 3BA

The expected pay range for this position is $128,139 to $145,000 annually.

Credit Human is committed to equitable and transparent compensation practices. Final compensation is determined based on a variety of factors, including experience, skills, qualifications, internal equity, and geographic work location.

This role may also be eligible for:

Job Location: This position is onsite based in New Orleans, LA.

Credit Human conducts employment background checks that may be used for decisions related to employment.
