Animal Scientist

Great opportunity for professionals with a bachelor's degree in Animal Sciences, Agriculture, or a closely related bachelor's degree interested in working in the US with a TN Visa. Only citizens of Canada and Mexico are eligible for the TN Visa program. Position Summary: The Animal Scientist will be responsible for the overall care of the poultry we raise. Essential Job Duties:

  • Monitor and document flock performance metrics to support production goals and overall bird health, including:
    • Mortality rates and trends, taking appropriate action to reduce losses.
    • Egg production data to ensure birds are producing at expected levels.
    • Environmental conditions, such as temperature, to maintain bird comfort and optimize egg production.
    • Feed and water consumption to identify trends and support operational efficiency.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret bird health and production data, including:
    • Growth patterns and body weight measurements.
    • Feed intake and feed conversion rates.
    • Health indicators and overall flock condition.
    • Water usage and dietary impacts on performance.
  • Ensure bird health and welfare by:
    • Conducting routine assessments and identifying signs of illness or injury.
    • Coordinating veterinary care and treatment plans as needed.
    • Recommending and implementing measures to support flock well-being and productivity.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation related to:
    • Bird health, production performance, mortality, and other operational metrics.
    • Research findings and observational data.
    • Compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements.
    • Reports used to evaluate flock performance and support continuous improvement efforts.
  • Oversee and support bird movement and tracking processes by:
    • Managing and maintaining wing-tagging systems.

Qualifications:

  • University degree in the field of Engineering
  • Able to work around moving machinery comfortably.
  • Willing to work a flexible schedule to include weekends and holidays as assigned.
  • Working in a farm environment with very dusty conditions
  • Does not own or maintain routine contact with swine or birds.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to perform essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Ability to remain standing and/or walking for extended periods of time on concrete floors.
  • Walk 8-13 kilometers per day.
  • Climb ladders and walk on elevated walkways.
  • Ability to stoop, bend, climb, and lift at least 25 lbs. continuously throughout the day.
