Supplemental Information
The City of Hoover is seeking candidates for Information Systems Specialist positions to focus on the implementation, monitoring, and/or maintenance of the City's information technology and application systems.
The City has a population of over 90,000 and is a suburb to the Birmingham/Hoover Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) in north central Alabama. The City has several buildings within its infrastructure, including City Hall, Public Safety Center, 11 fire stations, and several police department substations, the Hoover Metropolitan Complex, multiple other parks, and 2 sewer systems. City Hall and the Public Safety Center are connected via fiber optics, while many of these other facilities are connected via various managed circuits.
The Information Systems Specialist position consists of multiple tracts covering the following areas: computer networking and analysis, systems administration, security and information assurance, storage and backups, IT audit, database administration, GIS, enterprise software systems, and/or other general software application systems and integration. The candidate should be knowledgeable in one or more of these areas.
The City's network/server environment is primarily Windows based and utilizes a virtual environment for the majority of its systems. The mail environment is Exchange 2016. Data Storage is managed through a NetApp implementation with system backups using Veeam. Onsite databases are 95% Microsoft SQL Server with the rest being DB2, and the deployment of user based applications/software is managed through Microsoft's SCCM. Remote Access is managed through Citrix Storefront. City WIFI is provided through Extreme Networks. A Cisco phone system is in place, as well. Administration of the City's network includes managing Active Directory, Exchange Accounts, and Group Policies.
The City's primary desktop deployments consist of Windows 10. Applications are split between departmental specific and enterprise wide. Examples of these would include: Microsoft Office, Central Square (formerly Superion/Sungard Public Sector), Tyler Munis, Esri based GIS software, Adobe Suite, AutoCAD, Laservault (document management), Support/Ticket Management Software, etc.
All tracts whether applications or network facing require excellent verbal and written communications skills. This would include documenting network design, location mapping, application install and configuration processes, user help documentation, as well as communicating via class room training, presentations, and/or one on one support. Furthermore, the ability to work with 3rd party vendors and communicate needs and disseminate information to the rest of the team is essential.
