Field Service Technician – Odessa, TX

Prodigy Solutions is seeking a dependable, hands-on Field Service Technician based in the Odessa, Texas area. This is a full-time, home-based position involving regular travel to correctional facilities and other customer locations throughout Central Texas.

The right candidate will have experience with low-voltage wiring, basic computer and equipment installation, and general technical troubleshooting. We are looking for someone who enjoys working independently, takes pride in completing installations correctly, and can represent Prodigy professionally at customer locations.

This is not a work-from-home desk position. The technician will begin and end most days from home but will travel in a company-provided vehicle to customer facilities throughout the assigned territory.

Responsibilities

• Install, service and maintain inmate telephone, video visitation, tablet, kiosk and related communications equipment
• Run, terminate, label and test Cat5e/Cat6 and other low-voltage cabling
• Install and connect computers, monitors, network equipment, phones, cameras, charging equipment and peripheral devices
• Mount equipment securely to walls, desks, kiosks and other designated locations
• Perform basic Windows PC setup, software installation and peripheral configuration
• Diagnose wiring, power, connectivity and basic hardware problems
• Replace defective equipment and complete preventive-maintenance visits
• Work with Prodigy’s technical-support and engineering teams to resolve more complex issues
• Communicate professionally with sheriffs’ offices, jail administrators, correctional officers and other facility personnel
• Maintain accurate service records, installation photographs and equipment documentation
• Maintain the assigned company vehicle, tools and replacement-equipment inventory
• Travel throughout Central Texas and occasionally assist with installations elsewhere in Texas

Qualifications

• Experience with low-voltage wiring, telecommunications, security systems, cable installation, computer installation or a similar technical trade
• Ability to terminate and test Ethernet cabling
• Basic understanding of computers, Windows, IP-connected devices and networking
• Ability to use hand tools, power tools, cable testers and basic diagnostic equipment
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work independently and manage a regional service schedule
• Professional communication skills and a customer-service mindset
• Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
• Ability to pass the background screening required to work inside correctional facilities
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, climb ladders and work above or below desks and equipment cabinets
• Willingness to travel regularly and occasionally stay overnight when required

Preferred Experience

• Low-voltage, structured-cabling or telecommunications installation
• Installation or servicing of computers, security systems, access-control systems, surveillance equipment or network-connected devices
• Experience working in correctional facilities, government buildings or other secure environments
• Familiarity with IP addressing, network switches, routers or VoIP equipment

Advanced networking certifications are not required. We are primarily looking for someone with solid wiring and installation skills who is dependable, mechanically capable and willing to learn Prodigy’s systems.
