Summary
The Senior Software Engineer designs, develops, tests, implements, and supports enterprise software solutions that enable core academic and administrative business functions. This role partners with functional stakeholders, analysts, and technical team members to translate business needs into scalable, secure, and maintainable applications, integrations, and data solutions. The position is responsible for leading complex development efforts, troubleshooting production issues, improving system performance, and promoting software engineering best practices throughout the application life cycle. The ideal candidate brings strong full-stack and integration experience, sound judgment, and the ability to work independently while contributing to team standards, operational stability, and continuous improvement. Experience as a QA Engineer or in software quality assurance is a plus.
Leads the design, development, enhancement, and maintenance of enterprise applications, APIs, integrations, database objects, and supporting technical components used by institutional departments and end users. Works closely with business stakeholders, project leads, and cross-functional IT teams to analyze requirements, define technical approaches, estimate effort, and deliver solutions that align with operational priorities and compliance expectations. Performs code reviews, refactoring, unit/integration testing, deployment support, and root-cause analysis for incidents and defects; ensures solutions are reliable, secure, documented, and supportable in production. Optimizes existing systems through performance tuning, automation, and process improvement, while helping reduce support backlog and improve service responsiveness for a large portfolio of business-critical applications.
This role supports business-critical institutional systems and requires a balance of strong technical execution, independent problem-solving, and customer-focused collaboration. The position regularly works on complex enhancements, production support, system integrations, and modernization initiatives that affect multiple departments and end users. Success in this role requires the ability to manage multiple priorities, communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, and maintain high standards for quality, security, and documentation. Candidates with experience in enterprise application support, data-sensitive environments, and cross-functional teamwork will be especially well-suited for this position.

  • Troubleshoot application defects, integration failures, and production incidents; identify root causes and implement sustainable fixes.
  • Participate in requirements gathering, solution design sessions, sprint/release planning, and effort estimation for assigned work.
  • Maintain technical documentation including system design notes, support procedures, deployment instructions, and code comments.
  • Ensure solutions follow institutional standards for security, privacy, data stewardship, and change management.
  • Collaborate with analysts, DBAs, infrastructure teams, QA resources, and vendors to deliver and support end-to-end solutions.
  • Support after-hours deployments or incident response activities when required for critical systems.
  • Perform other job related duties as assigned.
