Job description

Job Summary

The Bucks IU Fab Lab Center is a vibrant, hands-on learning environment where children of all ages engage in digital fabrication, computer science, engineering, and STEAM activities in a fun and innovative out-of-school setting. The Fab Lab offers a variety of programs, including school field trips, after-school clubs, STEAM Saturdays, day-off-school programs, Kids Night Out events, and birthday parties. This job posting is specific to birthday parties. Under the direction of the Supervisor of STEAM Education, the Fab Lab Birthday Party Group Leader is responsible for facilitating engaging, STEAM-oriented birthday party experiences for children. This role focuses on creating a memorable, fun, and educational celebration for guests while ensuring a positive and organized event. The Birthday Party Group Leader will guide participants through hands-on activities, manage the flow of the party, and support families during their party. Additionally, the Birthday Party Group Leader will ensure the safety of all children and the security of the Fab Lab facility. All party agendas and activity guides will be provided. The Birthday Party Group Leader is expected to submit availability in advance to support scheduling and coordination of birthday party events. Flexibility and reliability are essential, as most parties occur on evenings and weekends. 

Essential Functions

  • Facilitate STEAM-based activities tailored for birthday parties. All party agendas and slides will be prepared and provided by the Fab Lab leadership team.
  • Ensure activities are delivered in an age-appropriate, engaging, and fun manner.
  • Use technology appropriately and confidently to promote learning, creativity, and collaboration.
  • Collaborate with the Supervisor of STEAM Education to schedule dates for birthday parties.
  • Welcome birthday families and guests to the Fab Lab.
  • Manage the setup and cleanup of party activities and spaces.
  • Ensure the safety and security of the Fab Lab facility, including but not limited to disarming and arming the security system.
  • Supervise and engage with children during birthday parties to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.
  • Practice active supervision of children in attendance and maintain a positive, energetic atmosphere.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with parents, children, and Fab Lab staff.
  • Ensure all equipment and materials are in good working order and stored appropriately after a birthday party.
  • Act as a fabulous ambassador for the Fab Lab Center, promoting the Fab Lab Center's programs and events.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall mission of the Fab Lab Center.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: This is a part-time, hourly position. Days and hours of work are dependent on program schedule. 

Travel: Travel is not expected for this position. 

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma Required
  • PA Level I or Level II Elementary or STEAM Content-Area Certification is preferred, but not required.
  • Teaching experience is preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of STEAM Education is preferred but not required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Evidence of experience with and expert knowledge of STEAM Education.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • A proven track record in the use of a rich array of instructional methods, the ability to build professional relationships, solve problems, and plan collaboratively.
  • Demonstrated content knowledge in computer science, engineering and design topics, and/or digital fabrication.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with parents, students, and staff verbally and in writing.

Work Authorization/Security Clearance (if applicable): Citizenship or work authorization to work in the United States required.
