Job description

Matrix designs, manufactures, and sells innovative technological products that help keep people safe. Originally focused on the underground coal mining industry, Matrix has expanded into new industrial markets in the United States and globally.
We are currently seeking a Senior RMA Repair Technician. This role is responsible for leading advanced inspection, troubleshooting, testing, repair, warranty evaluation and documentation for electronic assemblies returned through the RMA process. This role supports product quality, customer satisfaction, and timely turnaround by accurately diagnosing failures, performing complex repairs, inventory management, mentoring and directing repair technicians, and helping improve repair processes and test procedures. This position works in a team environment at our home office in Newburgh, IN. This is not a remote position.
This position reports to the Customer Success Manager.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Lead the testing, troubleshooting, repair, and validation of returned electronic assemblies, subassemblies, and finished goods.
  • Perform advanced component-level diagnostics using schematics, work instructions, test procedures, and standard electrical test equipment.
  • Determine repairability versus scrap based on technical findings, cost considerations, product condition, and company guidelines.
  • Complete mechanical disassembly and reassembly of products to access internal components and verify proper operation after repair.
  • Document test results, root cause findings, repair actions, parts used, and final disposition accurately in applicable systems or records.
  • Assist with prioritizing incoming RMA units to support customer commitments and department turnaround expectations.
  • Maintain adequate inventory to support repairs and ensure control of department inventory.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe repair area, including tools, test equipment, replacement parts, and consumable supplies.
  • Support development, review, and improvement of repair procedures, test instructions, troubleshooting guides, and documentation standards.
  • Provide technical guidance, training, and support to repair technicians and other team members.
  • Collaborate with Customer Success, Engineering, Quality, Assembly, Warehouse and Field Service teams to identify recurring failures, product concerns, and process improvement opportunities.

Additionally, candidates will be required to undergo an employment verification process before beginning work. Please note that we do not offer sponsorship for work authorization (e.g., H-1B, TN, or other visas) at this time.
  • Associate degree in Electronics, Engineering Technology, or a related field preferred; equivalent technical training and experience considered.
  • 3-5 years of experience in electronics testing, troubleshooting, repair, manufacturing, field service, or a related technical environment.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, bills of materials, work instructions, and technical documentation.
  • Proficient with electronic test and diagnostic equipment, including digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, and signal generators.
  • Hands-on experience with soldering, de-soldering, component replacement, and printed circuit board assembly (PCBA) repair.
  • Demonstrated ability to diagnose and resolve electrical and mechanical issues, document findings, and communicate technical information effectively.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and commitment to quality and accurate documentation.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and lead the daily activities of technicians in a fast-paced repair environment.
  • Proven leadership, coaching, and mentoring skills, with a focus on teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify root causes and implement corrective actions to improve product reliability and repair processes.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with RMA, warranty, repair, and customer-return processes.
  • Experience supporting products used in industrial, mining, automation, proximity detection, or safety-related environments.
  • Knowledge of quality systems, root cause analysis, corrective actions, and failure trend analysis.
  • Experience training, mentoring, or leading technicians in a repair, test, production, or service environment.
