Job description

Function/Duties of Position

Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) is seeking a BC/BE Child Neurologist with fellowship training or demonstrated expertise in pediatric movement disorders and/or tone management to join the Division of Pediatric Neurology at Doernbecher Children's Hospital.

This is an outstanding opportunity to join a collaborative, multidisciplinary team providing comprehensive care for children with complex movement disorders, dystonia, spasticity, hyperkinetic movement disorders, Parkinsonism, ataxia, tremor, tic disorders, and other neurologic conditions affecting motor function. The successful candidate will play an integral role in both the diagnostic evaluation and longitudinal management of children with complex neurologic disorders while helping to expand our regional referral program. Candidates with expertise in deep brain stimulation (DBS) will have the opportunity to lead the development of a multidisciplinary pediatric DBS program.

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and manage children with inherited and acquired movement disorders, including dystonia, chorea, ataxia, tremor, myoclonus, tic disorders, Parkinsonism, and functional movement disorders.
  • Provide comprehensive tone management for children with spasticity and dystonia using a multidisciplinary approach in both the inpatient and outpatient setting.
  • Perform procedures such as botulinum toxin injections, baclofen pump management, deep brain stimulation management, formal gait evaluation, with opportunities to expand procedural expertise (training available if needed).
  • Collaborate closely with orthopedic surgery, neurosurgery, genetics, developmental pediatrics, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, adult movement disorders specialists, and other pediatric subspecialties.

Academic Opportunities

OHSU offers a strong academic environment with opportunities to develop clinical, research, quality improvement, and educational programs. Faculty are encouraged to pursue their academic interests, including clinical research, translational science, multicenter collaborations, and trainee education. Faculty will be encouraged to maintain and develop national and international clinical and research collaborations.

Teaching

Faculty participate in the education of pediatric neurology residents, adult neurology residents, pediatric residents, medical students, and trainees in other divisions (e.g. pediatric intensive care, emergency medicine) through inpatient service, outpatient clinics, conferences, and didactic teaching. Potential for development of a pediatric stroke fellowship program.

Required Qualifications
  • MD or DO (or equivalent)
  • Board certified or board eligible in Child Neurology
  • Fellowship training or demonstrated expertise in Pediatric Movement Disorders, Movement Disorders, Neurogenetics, or a related field preferred
  • Experience with botulinum toxin injections, intrathecal baclofen management, deep brain stimulation programs, or multidisciplinary tone management is desirable but not required
  • Eligibility for medical licensure in Oregon
