Job description

Minnesota Valley Action Council (MVAC) is a nonprofit community action agency serving south-central Minnesota since 1965. OVERVIEW OF THE POSITION: Responsible for providing Head Start Home Base services to enrolled participants. Direct services include family services, education, health, mental health, and nutrition services. Provide referrals and connect families to community resources. Conduct outreach and recruitment and provide a weekly Home Visit to families. Develop and maintain professional working relationships with families, partners, co- workers, and supervisors.  

ESSENTIAL FUNCITIONS OF THE JOB:  

  • Responsible for conducting outreach, recruitment, and applications.  

  • Responsible for weekly Home Visits to assigned families and children.  

  • Responsible for providing Health, Mental Health, and Nutrition services to enrolled families.  

  • Responsible for the classroom learning environment during school time experiences. Responsible for following the program curriculum and assessment. 

  • Responsible for Family Partnerships and Goal Setting with enrolled families.  

  • Responsible for Parent Engagement and Community Partnership building. 

  • Responsible for completing required paperwork and data entry accurately and in a timely manner according to program requirements and the Forms Routing Checklist. Responsible for abiding by MVAC Policies, Head Start Performance Standards, and MN DHS Childcare Center Statutes and Rules. 

REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE: A minimum of a home-based CDA credential or equivalent coursework as part of an associate' s or bachelor' s degree and be able to demonstrate competency to plan and implement home-based learning experiences is required. Advanced degree, Bachelor' s or Associate' s degree in early childhood or related degree is preferred. Knowledge of community resources and the skills to link families to appropriate services is beneficial. This position requires strong computer, communication, and organizational skills. Experience working with children and families is required. Bilingual beneficial.
