About the Role:

The Director of Patient Financial Services provides strategic leadership for patient financial responsibility operations, including patient billing, payment arrangements, collections, account resolution, financial assistance programs, and patient communications. This role is responsible for improving patient account performance, reducing patient A/R and bad debt, enhancing the patient financial experience, and ensuring patients have access to available financial resources while supporting organizational financial objectives. The Director leads a high-performing team, drives operational excellence, and ensures compliance with applicable healthcare regulations and organizational policies.

Schedule: Monday – Friday; 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Minimum Qualifications:

Experience/Education:

  • 7 years of progressive healthcare revenue cycle experience
  • 3 years of leadership experience managing revenue cycle or patient financial services teams
  • Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or a related field

Essential Duties
• Provide strategic leadership and oversight of all patient financial services operations, including patient billing, payment arrangements, collections, account resolution, and financial assistance programs.
• Develop and implement strategies to improve patient collections, reduce patient accounts receivable, and minimize bad debt while maintaining a positive patient experience.
• Oversee patient communications, financial counseling, statement processes, and inquiry resolution to ensure clear, timely, and consistent patient engagement.
• Monitor patient account activity, analyze financial performance trends, and implement initiatives to improve payment outcomes and financial clearance.
• Collaborate with revenue cycle, intake, and payment posting teams to improve operational efficiency, payment application accuracy, and overall account resolution.
• Lead patient affordability and assistance efforts, including manufacturer copay assistance, foundation support, and internal financial assistance programs.
• Develop, implement, and maintain policies, procedures, and workflows that support revenue integrity, patient advocacy, and operational effectiveness.
• Establish and monitor key performance indicators, prepare reports, and communicate results related to patient financial performance and operational goals.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, payer requirements, and organizational policies related to patient billing, collections, and financial assistance activities.
• Recruit, develop, coach, and lead a high-performing patient financial services team while establishing accountability, performance expectations, and professional development opportunities.

• Presenting ideas in an easy to understand manner with an engaging and captivating style. Effectively communicating complex ideas or thoughts in an easy to understand manner. Using appropriate grammar, including vocabulary and sentence structure. Proficient in Microsoft Office
Suite, EMR software, payroll software, and all other software programs.
• Must uphold all principles of confidentiality and patient care to the fullest extent while adhering to and complying with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) at all times.
• Knowledge of, and sensitivity to, cultural and language differences.
• Able to perform basic mathematical computations.
