  • Analyze complex and sophisticated money laundering schemes, including typologies involving emerging technologies, for the purpose of identifying required enhancements to business processes, risk controls, policies, and procedures to prevent misuse of KeyBank's infrastructure.
  • Lead special projects that advance an intelligence-led AML strategy, establishing meaningful and measurable goals that demonstrate the operational effectiveness and business impact of intelligence produced and disseminated across the enterprise.
  • Identify key internal and external stakeholders capable of enacting change based on intelligence and risk assessments; establish sustainable mechanisms for intelligence sharing, escalation, and feedback to ensure actionable outcomes.
  • Develop and maintain liaison strategies to integrate AML and Financial Crimes Risk Management with business units, clients, internal partners (Legal, Compliance, Risk, Technology), and external stakeholders, including law enforcement and regulatory bodies.

Digital Assets & Emerging Technology AML Responsibilities
  • Design, implement, and sustain a risk-based AML and Financial Crimes framework for digital asset activities, including but not limited to cryptocurrencies, stablecoins, tokenized assets, blockchain-based payment solutions, custody, and digital asset intermediaries.
  • Lead development and maintenance of digital asset-specific AML policies, standards, risk assessments, and end-to-end control design and execution frameworks, aligned to applicable regulatory guidance and industry leading practices.
  • Assess and monitor inherent and residual risks associated with digital assets, including pseudonymity, decentralization, cross-border exposure, sanctions evasion, layering and obfuscation techniques, and rapid transaction velocity.
  • Oversee incorporation of blockchain analytics, transaction monitoring concepts, typology development, and emerging red flags into the broader AML program and investigative workflows.
  • Partner with Technology, Product, and Innovation teams to ensure AML and Financial Crimes requirements are embedded into digital asset product design, onboarding, transaction processing, and lifecycle management, including alignment to underlying blockchain infrastructure, data architecture, and integration requirements.
  • Engage with and provide advisement to workstreams within Financial Crimes Risk Management to ensure recommended digital asset strategies are properly incorporated into existing compliance policies and processes
  • Support regulatory engagement related to digital assets, including examinations, information requests, issue remediation, and supervisory discussions; ensure documentation, rationale, and governance are defensible and exam-ready.
  • Evaluate third-party vendors and strategic partners supporting digital asset activities to ensure adequate AML, sanctions, and fraud risk management capabilities.
  • Support development of KeyBank's regulatory positioning and risk appetite with respect to digital assets, including articulation of control frameworks, limitations, and governance to regulators and senior committees.

Leadership, Training & Representation
  • Support the development of staff by enhancing organizational understanding of AML programs, financial crimes risks, digital asset typologies, and emerging threats.
  • Deliver executive-level and regulator-facing presentations, and represent KeyBank externally in discussions with industry forums, government entities, and public-private partnerships related to financial crimes and digital assets.
  • Represent KeyBank in dealings with business leaders, Legal, Compliance, Audit, and internal or external counsel on intelligence, financial crime, fraud, and digital asset risk matters.

  • Superior understanding of applicable local, national, and international statutes related to financial crimes, including AML, sanctions, and regulatory expectations for digital assets.
  • Strong ability to liaise with internal and external counsel, regulators, law enforcement, and public-private partnerships.
