Description
The Early Intervention Developmental Specialist's (DS) primary responsibility is to plan and implement special instruction services to children, birth to three years of age enrolled in Early Intervention Home-Based Services as outlined by the Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP).
Typical work duties include:
Within the child's natural environment, provide coaching services to the family, consultation, and monitoring of interventions for infants and toddlers across domains. Coach family members/caregivers/co-workers skills in a variety of developmental areas, including cognitive processes and social interaction to deliver early intervention services to families in home and community settings; provide resources for families.
Assess and measure communication and feeding abilities of students to establish developmental levels.
Complete assessments of children to obtain current levels of functioning and implement and assist in the development of the IFSP. Assessments are completed in the child's natural environment by formal and informal methods and conducted with parents or guardians to gather information relevant to the IFSP and the services designated within the IFSP.
Plans, reviews, selects, and maintains therapeutic equipment and materials for use in the coaching environment. Requests, secures, follows up on medical information relative to the discipline.
Participates as a member of the transdisciplinary team working with families and other professional staff in assessing, developing, implementing, evaluating, and modifying IFSP outcomes for children. This includes consultation with team members, as well as active participation in weekly team meetings.
Prepares and maintains written reports and reports that are required but not limited to child assessments, IFSP outcomes, and progress data.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
This position contributes to the State Teachers Retirement System (STRS)
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or graduate-level degree in education, health, social or behavioral science, social services, human services, or other related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Must possess, or be able to obtain in a timely manner, a Developmental Specialist certification issued by the Ohio Department of Children and Youth.
    Possession of a valid Ohio Driver's License issued by the Ohio Department of Motor Vehicles.
  • Must be able to lift, bend, push, pull up to 50lbs.
