Job description

Event Production Designer (CAD & 3D Visualization)
COMPANY DESCRIPTION
Van Wyck & Van Wyck is a highly regarded environmental design and event production firm with headquarters in New York City. We produce private celebrations ranging from stunning weddings on beaches and mountaintops to international destination experiences and not-for-profit events.
www.vanwyck.net
Workshop designs and produces engaging events that communicate a brand's message. We build experiences that create compelling content, heighten brand loyalty and influence purchase behavior.
www.workshopworldwide.com
Our two sister companies are distinguished by innovative designs and an unsurpassed level of service, with over 20 years of experience in the field. We are a dynamic, creative, and growth-oriented team with incredibly high production values.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
Workshop is seeking an Event Production Designer (CAD & 3D Visualization) with deep expertise in spatial design, floor plan drafting, and photorealistic 3D rendering for high-end live events. You will shape how space, movement, and design come together to create seamless, high-touch guest experiences.
This is a production-forward role focused on translating creative concepts into precise, buildable spatial documents that support execution from concept through strike.
You approach design through the lens of event logic, including traffic flow, sightlines, service access, rigging zones, and load-in sequencing. You communicate design intent clearly to both creative leadership and technical teams.
Production literacy is essential.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Floor Plans
  • Produce fully dimensioned, production-ready floor plans from site measurements, venue drawings, and field data
  • Integrate all logistical elements into a single, legible plan (staging, tenting, power, service paths, bars, dance floors)
  • Maintain version control and distribute updates clearly across stakeholders
  • Ensure compliance with venue requirements, fire egress, and operational constraints

3D Rendering and Visualization
  • Create photorealistic renderings that accurately reflect production realities, not placeholders
  • Model real materials, lighting conditions, rental inventory, and architectural context
  • Iterate quickly based on feedback without compromising quality
  • Coordinate with lighting and AV teams to reflect fixture placement and beam behavior

Production Collaboration
  • Partner with Project Managers to align drawings with evolving logistics and budgets
  • Participate in site visits, surveys, and load-in walkthroughs to validate spatial assumptions
  • Collaborate with vendors (lighting, AV, rentals, floral) to resolve spatial constraints
  • Design with full production lifecycle in mind: build, show, and strike

Design Communication
  • Translate creative direction into clear, buildable drawings and visual assets
  • Identify spatial conflicts, feasibility issues, and cost implications early
  • Maintain organized libraries of venue drawings, plans, and rendering assets
  • Present plans and renderings confidently in client and internal settings

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS
Candidates must possess the following qualities:
  • 3+ years producing floor plans and 3D renderings in live events, experiential, or theatrical environments
  • Strong proficiency in CAD (AutoCAD, Vectorworks) and 3D modeling and rendering tools (SketchUp, Enscape, 3ds Max, Lumion, or equivalent)
  • High attention to detail with zero tolerance for scaling or dimension errors
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple large-scale projects
  • Clear communication and ability to translate between creative and technical stakeholders
  • Working knowledge of event production logistics, including rigging, tenting, power, and load-in sequencing
  • Ability to work flexible hours and travel both nationally and, at times, internationally, for events and site visits as necessary

  • Degree in design, architecture, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Experience designing live events or environmental installations
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and AI design tools
  • Experience with lighting and AV visualization (fixture placement, beam angles, color temperature)
  • Familiarity with union environments and complex venue requirements
