What is a home advisor?

Home Advisors are professionals who provide expert guidance and recommendations to homeowners regarding home improvement, repairs, maintenance, and service providers. They help homeowners find reliable contractors, compare quotes, and make informed decisions about their home projects. Home Advisors can work independently, as part of a consulting firm, or in association with online platforms that connect homeowners with service professionals.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a home advisor, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Home Advisor, you need strong knowledge of home improvement products and services, sales expertise, and typically a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with customer relationship management (CRM) systems, point-of-sale (POS) software, and sometimes certifications in specific home improvement areas are valuable. Excellent communication, active listening, and problem-solving abilities help you connect with clients and address their needs effectively. These skills are crucial for building trust, providing tailored recommendations, and driving customer satisfaction in a competitive market.

What are some common challenges a home advisor faces when helping clients select the right home improvement solutions?

Home Advisors often encounter challenges such as understanding each client's unique needs, balancing budget constraints with desired outcomes, and keeping up with the latest trends and products in home improvement. They must also coordinate effectively with contractors and suppliers to ensure timely project completion and high-quality results. Strong communication and problem-solving skills are essential, as Home Advisors frequently mediate between clients and service providers to address concerns and ensure satisfaction.

What is the difference between Home Advisor vs Handyman?

Employer/Industry UsageUsed by homeowners and contractors for project leadsUsed by homeowners for small repairs and improvements
Search/Comparison IntentFinding qualified professionals for home projectsHiring for specific repair or maintenance tasks

Home Advisor is an online platform that connects homeowners with local professionals for various home improvement projects. Handymen are individual service providers who perform repair and maintenance tasks. While Home Advisor helps you find qualified handymen, the handyman is the service provider performing the work. Both are integral to home repair, but Home Advisor acts as a facilitator, whereas a handyman is the skilled worker.

Senior Home Advisor — ADU Sales

BOXABL | North Las Vegas, NV (On-Site)

Why This Role Exists

BOXABL is reinventing how America builds housing — factory-built, foldable homes that ship complete and set up in hours, not months. This role is focused on the fastest-growing segment in residential construction: Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) in California and Texas, two of the most active ADU markets in the country, driven by California's ADU-friendly state zoning legislation and Texas's booming secondary-housing demand.

As a Senior Home Advisor, you're not cold-calling — you're the closer on warm, qualified leads, guiding homeowners through adding an ADU to their property: a backyard unit for aging parents, a rental unit, a home office, or extra space for family. You own the deal from handoff to close: consultation, site feasibility, financing coordination, contract. If you're a natural closer who understands (or wants to master) ADU zoning, permitting, and homeowner decision-making, this is the seat.

Team & Reporting Structure

You'll join BOXABL's B2C inside sales team, reporting to the Consumer Sales Lead. Home Advisors qualify and schedule leads; Senior Home Advisors own them from handoff through signed contract, with clean handoff to dedicated post-sale and pre-construction teams after close. BOXABL is scaling rapidly, and top performers advance with it — into senior territory ownership, team leadership, and sales management as the team grows.

Compensation & Benefits
  • Base Salary: $50,000
  • Commission: 1% of gross deal amount, uncapped; average commission per deal ranges $1,250–$2,500
  • Payout: 70% at contract + deposit, 30% at Certificate of Occupancy
  • First-Year Earning Potential: $120K–$240K OTE for reps hitting target close volume
  • Equity: Stock grants in the Company
  • Benefits: Full health insurance package
  • No cap on what you can earn. The better you close, the more you make — period.
What You'll Do
  • Own the close. Take full ownership of qualified ADU leads in your CA/TX territory from handoff through signed contract — consultation, presentation, and negotiation.
  • Run same-day confirmations on all scheduled presentations to keep show rates high.
  • Deliver consultative presentations daily, translating each homeowner's lot situation and goals (rental income, multigenerational living, home office) into the right BOXABL ADU configuration and financing path.
  • Assess ADU-specific site feasibility — setback requirements, lot access, utility hookups, and local zoning/permitting constraints — using site-feasibility platforms and your own judgment.
  • Navigate state and municipal ADU rules, understanding how California's statewide ADU zoning laws and Texas's locally-driven permitting processes each affect deal timelines and customer expectations.
  • Manage a healthy pipeline of active leads and deals across your territory, with clean handoff to pre-construction and permitting teams.
  • Coordinate financing as the liaison between the homeowner and funding/document collection (HELOCs, renovation loans, and cash-out refinancing are common ADU financing paths), keeping deals moving.
  • Hit and exceed targets — consistently, not occasionally.
What You Bring
  • 2+ years of consumer sales experience in a fast-paced, target-driven environment
  • A track record of closing, not just presenting
  • Strong persuasion, negotiation, and communication skills — written and verbal
  • The organizational discipline to run a full pipeline without deals falling through the cracks
  • Comfort building and delivering a tailored presentation on the fly
  • Familiarity with — or strong willingness to quickly learn — California and/or Texas ADU zoning and permitting requirements; this is a differentiator given how directly it affects deal cycle time and customer trust
  • Bonus points: construction knowledge, ability to read architectural/engineering drawings, prior experience selling or coordinating ADU, backyard cottage, or modular home projects, familiarity with HELOC/renovation financing products, and proficiency with HubSpot, NetSuite, or Microsoft Office
Why Reps Choose BOXABL
  • Uncapped commission: your ceiling is your own performance, not a plan design
  • A product people actually want: you're solving a real, urgent problem — housing affordability and availability — not pushing a commodity, and millions follow our brand
  • Warm, qualified leads: all your leads are prequalified; your job is to close them
  • Real career growth: BOXABL is scaling fast, and top performers move up with it
  • Fast commission payout: 70% of your commission pays at contract signing, not months later
Work Environment & Physical Demands

Work is performed on-site at BOXABL headquarters in North Las Vegas in an open office environment that supports collaboration inside and outside your department. Most of your day is spent at a desktop or laptop delivering presentations, making calls, sending emails and texts, and updating the CRM. You must be able to operate standard office equipment and occasionally walk short distances, including within the factory, to perform job duties. The role requires exchanging ideas verbally with customers and colleagues and conveying detailed spoken information accurately. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this job.
