POSITION PURPOSE:
The Registered Nurse (RN) - Pediatric will, within their scope of licensure and under general supervision of the Clinic Manager, utilize the nursing process and critical thinking to provide pediatric patient care. This position performs daily clinical duties, functions as a resource for nurses and Medical Assistants and focuses on the unique needs of children and families. The RN - Pediatric will contribute to QA/QI activities as directed by the Clinic Manager and/or Chief Medical Officer.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Treat and educate pediatric patients and their caregivers about various medical conditions, provide advice, and support, and promote child and family-centered care, both individually and in groups.
  • Assist the Clinic Manager in developing systems to maximize patient service, safety, quality care, and provider efficiency within the pediatric specialty.
  • Conduct triage of phone calls and walk-in patients for acuteness of need and/or priority of intervention, ensuring pediatric-specific considerations are documented appropriately.
  • Inform caregivers of abnormal lab test and x-ray results, providing guidance and next steps.
  • Provide mentorship, training, and oversight for Licensed Practical Nurses and Medical Assistants working with pediatric patients, including ensuring competence in child-specific care and procedures.
  • Participate in implementing clinical programs for pediatric patients with chronic conditions.
  • Oversee the operation, accountability, and maintenance of pediatric clinic equipment, including age-appropriate medical devices.
  • Collaborate with community partners to ensure proper referrals and continuity of care for high-needs children, including those with developmental or complex medical needs.
  • Coordinate case management for pediatric patients with chronic, developmental, or high acuity needs, ensuring individualized care plans and timely follow-ups.
  • Administer age-appropriate injections and screenings as ordered/prescribed by pediatric provider.
  • Participate in orientation and ongoing training for newly hired clinicians in pediatric care.
  • Provide backup support in checking in pediatric patients and scheduling their appointments.
  • Attend staff meetings, in-service meetings, and participate in pediatric-specific committees and task force activities as required.
  • Demonstrate respectful, professional, and appropriate behavior in a team-oriented pediatric work environment; commit to the mission, core values, and goals of Aviva Health with a focus on child and family-centered healthcare delivery, integrating values of justice, respect, compassion, excellence, and stewardship.
  • Protect confidentiality of patient information and ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Follow all Aviva Health policies and procedures, including HIPAA.
  • Perform all duties accurately and efficiently and other pediatric-related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school graduate or equivalent education.
  • Active and unencumbered Oregon Registered Nurse licensure required; BSN preferred.
  • Minimum two (2) years' progressively responsible, relevant experience in an ambulatory setting.
  • Demonstrated experience with EMR; experience with Athena Health EMR preferred.
  • Proven leadership experience, excellent customer service skills, and team building and collaboration skills; ability to work independently, detail oriented, organized, work effectively under pressure, and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent computer and organizational skills; knowledge of office procedures and patient flow.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
