What You’ll Do

As a Pediatric CDI Specialist, you will review pediatric medical records and collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, coding professionals, and healthcare teams to ensure clinical documentation accurately reflects the patient’s condition, complexity of care, and services provided.

Responsibilities include:

• Perform concurrent and retrospective reviews of pediatric medical records
• Identify opportunities to improve documentation completeness, specificity, and clinical accuracy
• Review diagnoses, procedures, complications, comorbidities, severity of illness, risk of mortality, and medical necessity
• Evaluate documentation using clinical indicators, ICD-10-CM/PCS guidelines, and applicable regulatory requirements
• Develop compliant provider queries for incomplete, conflicting, nonspecific, or clinically unsupported documentation
• Partner with pediatric physicians, APPs, coding professionals, quality teams, and other healthcare professionals
• Support accurate code and DRG assignment
• Provide physician and provider education regarding pediatric documentation best practices
• Identify documentation trends and opportunities for improvement
• Participate in peer reviews, quality audits, second-level reviews, DRG reconciliation, and other CDI initiatives as needed
• Maintain established productivity, quality, accuracy, and turnaround-time standards

Required Qualifications

Candidates must have:

• 3+ years of Clinical Documentation Integrity experience
• At least 1 year of pediatric CDI experience
• Strong knowledge of pediatric physiology, disease processes, treatments, and clinical indicators
• Experience reviewing pediatric medical records and identifying query opportunities
• Working knowledge of ICD-10-CM/PCS, MS-DRG and APR-DRG methodologies, severity of illness, risk of mortality, medical necessity, and quality reporting
• Knowledge of compliant query practices and AHIMA/ACDIS guidance
• Strong clinical judgment, critical-thinking, communication, and provider-education skills
• Ability to work independently and successfully in a remote environment
• Experience with electronic health records and CDI software

Credential Requirement

Candidates must hold one or more of the following active credentials:

• Registered Nurse (RN)
• Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist (CCDS)
• Certified Documentation Integrity Practitioner (CDIP)

Preferred Experience

Additional consideration will be given to candidates with:

• NICU and/or PICU CDI experience
• Second-level or peer-review experience
• Quality audits or mortality reviews
• DRG reconciliation experience
• Pediatric physician/provider education experience

Remote Work Options

Full-Time: 40 hours per week
Part-Time: Flexible scheduling available

This is a 100% remote U.S.-based opportunity. Candidates must have a dedicated, secure home workspace and reliable high-speed internet and must comply with all HIPAA privacy and security requirements.
