Job description

Summary of Position:

The successful candidate will provide a high level of safe skillful hoist operations at Southwest Critical Materials to include safe transportation of people, equipment, and material in and out of the mine in accordance with all regulations and assure that environmental and safety policies are adhered to.

Accountability:

The Underground Hoist Operator reports to the Underground Operations General Supervisor.

Essential Functions:
  • Complete preshift inspections to ensure all equipment is operating safely and efficiently and notify appropriate personnel of malfunctions.
  • Must be able to learn to operate the hoist to sling equipment and pipe down the shaft.
  • Ability to move levers, switches, and throttles to stop, start, and regulate speeds of hoist or winch drums in response to hand, bells, buzzer, telephone, lou.
  • dspeaker, or by observing dial indicators or cable marks.
  • Must be able to run the hoist in manual or auto mode.
  • Assist hoist mechanics with inspections or as needed for properly maintaining the hoist in safe working condition.
  • Accurately and properly document results of all tests in the required log book.
  • Observe equipment gauges and indicators and hand signals or other workers to verify load positions or depths.
  • Ability to sequence, time and manage several processes simultaneously.
  • Ability to operate a manualized and/or diesel generated hoist to movement of cableways, cages or skips.
  • Maintain a high standard of housekeeping in the workplace.

    Experience and Training:

    The incumbent must have proficient knowledge in the following areas:

  • Three (3) to Five (5) years in an underground mining environment, with hoist operations a plus.
  • Ability to interact and communicate effectively with a variety of individuals and departments required.
  • Aptitude in basic mechanical and computer knowledge.
  • Proven safety and attendance record required.
  • Demonstrated ability to be selfdirected, teamoriented and work with minimum supervision required.
  • Satisfactory safety, and performance required.
  • Must be able to multitask, and handle high radio, phone, and foot traffic.
  • Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
