What is a Hogan Developer job?

A Hogan Developer is an IT professional who specializes in developing, maintaining, and supporting applications built on the Hogan suite of banking software. This includes working with legacy mainframe systems that manage core banking functions such as deposits, loans, and customer accounts. Hogan Developers typically use COBOL, JCL, DB2, and other mainframe technologies to enhance system functionality and ensure smooth banking operations. They also troubleshoot issues, optimize performance, and support system integrations within financial institutions.

What are some typical challenges faced by Hogan Developers in a banking environment?

Hogan Developers often work with large, complex legacy codebases that require a deep understanding of older technologies and banking processes. One challenge is ensuring seamless integration between the Hogan system and newer digital banking platforms, which can involve troubleshooting, migration, and customization tasks. Additionally, balancing regular system maintenance with new feature development can be demanding, as changes must comply with strict regulations and avoid disrupting mission-critical operations. Staying updated with industry protocols while collaborating closely with business analysts, QA teams, and end users is key to overcoming these challenges.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Hogan Developer position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Hogan Developer, you need strong expertise in COBOL programming, IBM mainframe systems, and an in-depth understanding of Hogan banking applications, typically backed by a degree in Computer Science or related field. Experience working with Hogan modules, batch processing tools, JCL, and a familiarity with related certifications or mainframe migration tools is highly valued. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and clear communication skills are important soft skills in this role. These competencies enable Hogan Developers to efficiently maintain, customize, and support critical core banking systems while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
