Job description

Position Purpose/Summary This is routine recreation work in conducting assigned activities of a municipal skating-hockey rink. Work involves responsibility for assisting in assigned aspects of organizing, coordinating, promoting, and leading hockey and skating programs. Work is performed in accordance with standard recreational practices and procedures under the supervision of the Rink Manager who assigns activities and reviews work through conferences and observation.

No supervision is exercised over other employees. Essential Functions Assists in the planning, organizing, coordinating, and promoting hockey leagues of all ages Assists in the planning, organizing, and directing of classes in figure skating and promoting clinics for instructional skating Acts as scorer or timer of hockey games conducted at the rink Enforces rules and procedures providing for the safety of public skating rink patrons Preserves order among patrons and protects property during skating sessions Assists in maintaining the condition of ice surfaces by operation of scraping and related equipment Assists in keeping rink and related structures in clean and orderly conditions Performs related work as required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Working knowledge of the techniques, rules, materials, and equipment of hockey and skating activities Working knowledge of the rules and regulations governing conduct of facility users Working knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions involved in work performed Some knowledge of planning special events and of first aid Ability to organize, lead, and participate in hockey games and activities suited to needs and desires of participants Ability to understand and follow oral instructions. Ability to deal effectively and courteously with the public.

Ability in performing and teaching skating skills Education and Experience High school diploma or equivalent preferred Considerable experience in skating and in assisting in organizing and promoting hockey leagues and skating instruction
