Job description

Job Summary:
Under the immediate supervision of the Ice Rink Manager and Assistant Manager, and as directed by the Facility Manager or Assistant Director of Recreation and Facilities, the Cashier is responsible for providing customer service and supporting the daily operations of the ice rink.
This part-time seasonal position (November through March) includes duties such as assisting patrons at the front desk, handling cash and passes, and maintaining a clean and welcoming environment in the ice rink, check-in desk, and surrounding facility.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide friendly and efficient customer service at the ice rink front desk.
  • Check passes and process payments, ensuring proper handling of money.
  • Assist with facility cleanliness, including daily housekeeping of the rink, check-in area, and related spaces.
  • Support overall operations as directed by supervisory staff.

The Cashier position typically requires 10-25 hours per week.
Qualifications:
  • Must be at least 16 years old or older.
  • At least one year of experience working a cash register or similar experiences.
  • All employees must pass a criminal background check, which the Glencoe Park District will cover.

Required Knowledge:
  • Knowledge of the philosophy of public recreation and ability to effectively communicate it to others.
  • Demonstrated technical knowledge related to the position's responsibilities.

Required Skills:
  • Must be dependable and flexible, demonstrating good safety awareness and sound judgment.
  • Ability to understand and follow rules and instructions.
  • Ability to read, write, and organize materials effectively.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Check passes and/or collect money from patrons entering the Weinberg Family Recreation Center.
  • Be familiar with all fees relative to the ice rink.
  • Be responsible and accountable for all cash transactions during assigned shifts.
  • Maintain a secure and organized admissions area at the desk area of the Weinberg Family Recreation Center.
  • Handle all contacts with the public (patrons) pleasantly, courteously, and professionally.
  • Enforce rules and regulations appropriate to the ice rink.
  • Follow directions and instructions and be dependable, punctual, and organized.
  • Remain on duty at their assigned area for the entire assignment period, regardless of weather conditions.
  • They must always follow the instructions given to them by the Facility Manager, Ice Rink Manager, or Assistant Ice Rink Manager.
  • Must follow all general rules and regulations applicable to the public.
  • Attend in-service staff meetings.
  • Follow, administer, arid implement Glencoe Park District policies and guidelines .
  • Cooperate in maintaining and cleaning the Weinberg Family Recreation Center's lobby, recreation room, locker rooms, office area, and all bathrooms. This may include removing litter or garbage and checking and emptying trashcans before, during, and after rental parties.
  • Must familiarize themselves with the "Ice Rink Rules and Regulations."
  • Must wear uniform at all times while on duty.
  • Complete a daily checklist and immediately report accidents or concerns.
  • Assist in setting up and organizing daily activities
  • Field and answer patron questions to the best of their ability
  • Participate in special events

Hours:
Due to the nature of Park District programming, evening, weekend, and some holiday hours are to be expected.
Pay Scale:
This is a seasonal part-time, non-exempt (hourly) position. The intended starting pay for this position is $15 per hour, with a full pay scale ranging from $15 per hour to $20 per hour.
Final compensation will be determined in good faith based on an evaluation of the candidate's qualifications, experience, and the recommendation of the Facility Manager - Glencoe Beach and Ice Rink, or the Assistant Director of Recreation and Facilities.
