GENERAL POSITION OVERVIEW HMM is looking for a Legal Claims Coordinator to support our growing Claims Department. If you're detail-oriented, organized, and interested in international logistics, this could be a great opportunity for you. In this role, you'll manage cargo claims from start to finish-communicating with customers, collecting documentation, processing payments, and handling recovery efforts. You'll work with a variety of partners including rail companies, truckers, stevedores, and terminals. Under general supervision, provides support for all bulk and container cargo claims. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/DUTIES
  • Handle claims from beginning to end, including data entry and document management
  • Collect and review claim documentation to support defense or settlement
  • Open claims in our system, create reference numbers and maintain an organized claim folder
  • Coordinate recovery efforts with third parties (vessel owners, rail companies, trucking firms, etc.)
  • Negotiate claim settlements
  • Process claim payments with the Accounting Department
  • Assist with payment and resolution of claims as requested by our headquarters
  • Keep management updated on key claim issues
  • Maintain accurate and organized records
  • Support the team with other duties as needed
QUALIFICATIONS ESSENTIAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES
  • Strong communication skills and a problem-solving mindset
  • Excellent organizational and follow-up abilities
  • Detail-oriented, especially when handling important claim documents
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Word, Excel, and internal company systems
  • Preferred: Bilingual in English and Korean
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Experience handling claims (preferably in ocean shipping or property/casualty insurance)
  • Bachelor's degree in Business or a related field (preferred)
  • 2+ years of experience in the shipping or logistics industry (preferred)
