What does an HL7 Integration Developer do?

An HL7 Integration Developer specializes in designing, developing, and maintaining interfaces that allow healthcare systems to exchange data using HL7 standards. They work closely with hospitals, clinics, and software vendors to ensure patient information flows smoothly and securely between various electronic health record (EHR) systems. Their responsibilities also include troubleshooting integration issues, implementing new data exchange solutions, and ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations. Strong knowledge of HL7 protocols, healthcare IT systems, and programming languages is essential for this role.

What are some common challenges faced by HL7 Integration Developers when working with multiple healthcare systems?

HL7 Integration Developers often encounter challenges related to varying interpretations of HL7 standards across different healthcare systems. Each hospital or vendor may customize HL7 messages, requiring developers to adapt interfaces and handle exceptions. Effective communication with clinical, technical, and vendor teams is essential to troubleshoot issues and deliver seamless integrations.

Be cautious of recruitment fraud, and always confirm that communications are coming from an official Daymark Health email.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As a Senior Software Engineer at Daymark Health, you will contribute to our technical strategy, build secure and scalable infrastructure, and play a key role in the development of our core product. You will work closely with our other engineers, product, and data teams, operational leadership, and external customers to shape a transformative cancer care experience across the stack. We expect you to hit the ground running and help bring our product to market:

  • Build alongside a strong team: Contribute to the design, development, and deployment of our cancer care platform, with an emphasis on user experience, workflow integration, and security. You'll need to move fast, so comfort with tools like Claude, Cursor, and openness to experimentation will help our team build and operate more efficiently.
  • Customer collaboration: Spend time engaging with Daymark's internal care team (nurses, NPs), patients, providers, and health plans to gather feedback and understand their needs, which will directly inform product development and iterations.
  • Technical execution: Collaborate with operations, product, data engineering, and analytics to build the core systems and tools that enable our care team to serve patients as efficiently and effectively as possible.
  • Security & compliance: Ensure that all systems are built with a strong security posture, including HIPAA compliance and adherence to SOC II standards.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

  • In your first 6 months, you will support the evolution of Daymark Health's initial product for thousands of patients navigating cancer care, deploying AI-based SMS automation and internal tools to support care management.
  • Over the next 12 months, you will grow into a key technical contributor shaping our platform's direction, including potential integrations with hospital systems and patient-facing tools.
WHO YOU ARE
  • Deep technical expertise: You have 4+ years of experience designing and building user-centric products. You're comfortable both standing up third-party solutions and collaborating with contract teams to deliver high-quality outcomes.
  • AI-native builder: You're fluent with AI coding tools (e.g., Claude, Cursor, GitHub Copilot) and actively incorporate them into your workflow to move faster and write better code. You see AI-assisted development as a core skill, not a shortcut.
  • Healthcare experience: Familiarity with healthcare technology, including EHRs and interoperability standards (e.g., FHIR, HL7), is a plus.
  • Security-first mindset: You have experience building and maintaining secure, HIPAA-compliant systems and are comfortable with SOC II standards.
  • Action-oriented: You move with purpose and urgency, thriving in environments where speed and adaptability are crucial. You know how to prioritize and execute effectively in a fast-paced setting. We're early on in our journey and move quickly – we expect you to do the same.
  • Clear communicator: You can distill complex technical details and communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Customer-focused: You enjoy engaging directly with customers, understanding their challenges, and leveraging their feedback to improve the product. You're comfortable explaining technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and adjusting solutions based on real-world feedback.

Compensation Range:
