Job Description:

HITACHI RAIL is looking for an enthusiastic self-motivated Senior Signaling Engineer Onboard who thrives in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate is comfortable performing a wide range of tasks from administrative to strategic. This position is based in Pittsburgh, PA.

Accountabilities:

OnBoard Embedded Software Development

         Design, implement, and maintain embedded C software for onboard signaling and train control systems.

         Develop software for safetyrelated functions such as automatic train protection, communications handling, timing synchronization, diagnostics, and fault management.

         Interface closely with onboard hardware, including processors, I/O modules, communication buses, and safety peripherals.

         Ensure deterministic execution, robust error handling, and compliance with realtime constraints.

Rail Signaling & SafetyCritical Engineering

         Develop software in accordance with safety lifecycle requirements for railway control and protection systems.

         Contribute to safety documentation, including software requirements, architecture descriptions, and design specifications.

         Implement defensive coding and faulttolerant strategies appropriate for train safety systems.

CrossDisciplinary Collaboration & Leadership

         Work closely with project engineering, systems engineering, signaling design, hardware, V&V, and safety assurance teams.

         Provide technical leadership and mentoring for engineers working on onboard signaling software.

         Contribute to system architecture tradeoffs involving performance, safety, maintainability, and certification impact.

Required skills/experience:

  • 10+ years of embedded software development experience, including rail signaling or safetycritical systems.

  • Expertlevel proficiency in C for embedded, realtime environments.

  • Strong understanding of realtime concepts including scheduling, interrupts, concurrency, memory constraints, and hardware interaction.

  • Experience working in structured, audited, configurationcontrolled development environments.

Education:

Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or similar

Languages:
English proficiency
