Job description

Modern aerospace and defense systems require sophisticated automated test capabilities to verify the performance, reliability, and quality of mission-critical avionics throughout development, qualification, and production. As a Senior Test Software Engineer, you will develop the software that powers our automated test systems, enabling efficient verification and validation of FPGA-based electronics, embedded systems, and avionics hardware supporting advanced missile and defense programs.

In this role, you will design, develop, integrate, and maintain software applications that control electronic test equipment, execute automated test procedures, collect and analyze test data, and generate reports used for engineering development, qualification, and production acceptance. You will work closely with Electrical Design Engineers, FPGA Engineers, Flight Software Engineers, and Electrical Test Engineers to deliver scalable, reliable, and maintainable automated test solutions throughout the product lifecycle.

The ideal candidate enjoys solving complex hardware/software integration challenges, developing robust automation frameworks, and building test systems that improve product quality while reducing development and production cycle time.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and maintain software for automated test equipment (ATE), Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) systems, engineering development laboratories, and production test stations.
  • Develop software to control laboratory instrumentation including oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, signal generators, power supplies, electronic loads, switching systems, and other electronic test equipment.
  • Translate engineering test requirements and procedures into automated software solutions that produce repeatable, traceable, and reliable test results.
  • Design reusable software architectures, libraries, and frameworks that support multiple products and test platforms.
  • Develop operator interfaces, automated test sequencing, data acquisition, measurement analysis, logging, and report generation capabilities.
  • Integrate software with avionics hardware, FPGA designs, embedded software, and external instrumentation to support hardware verification and system integration.
  • Support hardware integration, qualification testing, environmental testing, and production acceptance activities.
  • Troubleshoot software, instrumentation, and hardware integration issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
  • Develop software documentation including requirements, design descriptions, user documentation, and test procedures.
  • Support software configuration management, version control, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to improve test efficiency, automation coverage, and overall product quality.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or related technical discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience developing software for automated test systems, laboratory automation, or hardware integration.
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as C#, Python, C++, LabVIEW, or similar.
  • Experience developing software that interfaces with electronic test instrumentation using communication standards such as VISA, GPIB, USB, Ethernet/LXI, Serial, or PXI.
  • Experience developing automated test sequences, data acquisition, measurement processing, and test reporting.
  • Familiarity with software architecture, object-oriented programming, and software design best practices.
  • Experience troubleshooting hardware/software integration issues in laboratory or manufacturing environments.
  • Experience using version control systems such as Git or Azure DevOps.
  • Strong analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be a U.S. Person with the ability to perform work subject to ITAR/EAR regulations and applicable program requirements.

Desirable Experience:

  • Experience developing automated test software for aerospace, defense, or other high-reliability electronic systems.
  • Experience supporting FPGA-based systems, embedded software, or mixed-signal electronic hardware.
  • Experience developing software for Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) or Automated Test Equipment (ATE) systems.
  • Experience controlling electronic instrumentation using NI VISA, SCPI, PXI, or similar communication frameworks.
  • Experience with test management tools such as NI TestStand or equivalent automated test executives.
  • Experience with multithreaded software development and asynchronous hardware communication.
  • Familiarity with digital communication protocols such as SPI, IC, UART, CAN, Ethernet, or RS-422/485.
  • Experience with qualification testing, environmental testing, and production acceptance testing.
  • Experience developing software under configuration management and requirements-driven development processes.
  • Familiarity with scripting and data analysis tools such as Python, MATLAB, or SQL.
  • Active U.S. Department of Defense Security Clearance or the ability to obtain one.
