Carilion Clinic and Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine invite an accomplished academic urologist to lead a thriving and expanding Section of Urology as our next Chief of Urology. This is a unique opportunity to guide a highly respected clinical and academic program while helping design and launch a future Urologic Surgery Residency Program.

As Chief, you will have the opportunity to influence the future of urologic care, education, and research across a growing health system while leading a collaborative team of six urologists and three advanced care practitioners. This role offers the ideal balance of clinical practice, academic leadership, mentorship, and program development within an innovative healthcare environment.

What You'll Do

As Chief of Urology, you will:

  • Lead the clinical, educational, and research missions of the Section of Urology
  • Recruit, mentor, and develop faculty while fostering a culture of collaboration and excellence
  • Guide strategic growth initiatives and expand access to urologic care throughout the region
  • Build and oversee the development of a future Urologic Surgery Residency Program
  • Advance research and academic scholarship through partnerships with Virginia Tech and the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute
  • Teach and mentor medical students, residents, fellows, and other healthcare learners
  • Maintain an active clinical practice supported by advanced technology and multidisciplinary resources

About the Program

Based at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital and Carilion Children's Hospital, a Level I Trauma Center and 763-bed academic medical center, the Section of Urology provides comprehensive care throughout a large multi-state service area.

The team delivers care across multiple hospitals and regional clinic locations, offering exceptional clinical variety and opportunities for professional growth. Our integrated, physician-led model promotes collaboration across specialties and supports outstanding patient outcomes.

What We're Looking For

We're seeking a collaborative and visionary physician leader who brings:

  • MD or DO degree
  • Board Certification in Urology
  • Minimum of five years of progressive leadership experience within an academic urology setting
  • Academic rank of Associate Professor or higher
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Experience building teams, developing programs, and leading multidisciplinary initiatives

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Experience in Graduate Medical Education
  • Fellowship training in a urologic subspecialty
