Job description

We are seeking an experienced CNC/Manual Machinist to join our manufacturing team in Houston, TX 77073. This is a 12-month contract position paying $25.00 per hour, with the potential to transition into a permanent role based on performance and business needs. In this role, you will be responsible for programming, setting up, and operating both CNC and manual machining equipment to support rotor and gas turbine component repairs. The ideal candidate has strong machining expertise, the ability to work within tight tolerances, interpret complex blueprints and technical drawings, and is committed to producing high-quality work while maintaining a safe and efficient shop environment.


Main Responsibilities
  • Program, set up, and operate CNC lathes, Vertical Turning Lathes (VTLs), milling machines, and manual machining equipment.
  • Support a strong safety culture by maintaining a "safe to start" mindset and following all safety procedures.
  • Align large rotors, gas components, and other parts within tight tolerances for machining, grinding, and runout corrections.
  • Read and interpret OEM drawings, blueprints, schematics, Repair Engineering Instructions (REIs), work instructions, and digital routers.
  • Apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles to ensure machining accuracy.
  • Calculate and set machining parameters, including speeds, feeds, coolant flow, depth of cut, and cutting angles.
  • Monitor machine operations to identify malfunctions or out-of-tolerance conditions and make necessary adjustments.
  • Select, align, and secure fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials for machining operations.
  • Support both the Rotor Shop and Machine Shop based on production needs, including machining steam rotors, gas rotors, cases, gas components, aero components, and value rack repairs.
  • Maintain quality standards while meeting production schedules.

Main Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 3 years of related machining experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Advanced experience operating:
  • CNC Mills
  • CNC Lathes
  • NC Machines
  • Manual Mills
  • Manual Lathes
  • Manual Vertical Turning Lathes (VTLs)
  • Expert-level skills in:
  • OD and ID turning
  • Grinding and burnishing
  • Feed rate calculations
  • Ability to operate both CNC and manual machining equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
  • Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Strong mathematical skills, including basic algebra and geometry.
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong verbal communication skills and ability to work effectively within a team.
  • English proficiency required.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience machining gas turbine components, including HSPT, GE10, Frame 3, Frame 5, Frame 6, and Frame 7 components.
  • Manufacturing, Industrial, or Oil & Gas industry experience.
  • CNC certifications.


Work Qualifications
  • Manufacturing/shop environment.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods throughout the shift.
  • Overtime may be required based on production needs.
  • No travel required.
  • Work is performed at the employer's facility (not at a customer site).
  • No unusual safety risks associated with the role.
