Sr. Business Analyst - Incentive Compensation Risk Management

As a Senior Business Analyst at Capital One, you will apply your strategic and analytical skills to major company challenges. You will team with world-class professionals to develop and test strategies that ultimately impact the bottom line. The Role: This Sr. Business Analyst will perform highly impactful strategic and analytical work supporting the evaluation of Line of Business (LOB) incentive compensation plans across Capital One. The Analyst will develop an understanding of the company's incentive compensation plans, third party incentive compensation plans, business strategies, and corporate risk programs and apply quantitative and qualitative analytical techniques to assess incentive plan designs to help ensure that Capital One is paying its employees in ways that do not encourage imprudent risk taking and encourage alignment with business goals.. The Analyst will analyze incentive plan design and structures, performance measures, payout mechanics, participant and performance data, and other relevant information to identify trends, relationships, and potential areas of risk within plan designs. The Analyst will translate complex analyses into clear, actionable insights; produce high quality data modeling and analysis; develop high-quality presentations and recommendations. The Analyst will communicate findings to senior leaders and key stakeholders to support effective challenge, informed decision-making , and the appropriate balance of risk and reward across the enterprise.

General Responsibilities:

  • Analysis: Identify business challenges and opportunities for improvement and solve for them using analysis to make strategic or tactical recommendations

  • Execution: Involve problem frame-works, develop hypotheses, test and analysis, solution development, scope operational feasibility, lead implementation efforts and develop a monitoring plan

  • Partnership: Work closely with colleagues across Capital One including: IT, Sales, Operations, Human Resources, Finance and others to drive improvement in quality, volume, service, and profitability

  • Strategic & analytic orientation: Demonstrate a proven track record of decision making and problem solving based on analytics. Conceptual thinking skills must be complemented by a strong quantitative orientation, given that a large part of the business is based on rigorous analytic marketing & credit risk management

  • Strong business judgment, leadership and integrity: He/she should be a tenacious decision maker, able to bring a healthy, aggressive, yet responsible approach to business. Demonstrate strong judgement and conviction when evaluating complex business and risk considerations

  • Strong communication skills: Impeccable written and oral communication credentials, coupled with strategic influencing skills and the ability to drive agreement through intellect, interpersonal and negotiation skills

  • Clear results orientation: Display an intense focus on achieving both short and long term goals and have the ability to drive and execute an agenda in an uncertain and fluid environment

  • Successful track record of thriving in a fast paced, entrepreneurial and dynamic environment. Previous consulting experience is a plus

Basic Qualifications:

  • At least 2 years of professional experience performing analysis

  • Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining one of the following with an expectation that the required degree will be obtained on or before the scheduled start date:

    • A Bachelor's Degree in a quantitative field (Business, Finance, Accounting, Statistics, Economics, Operations Research, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Computer engineering, Software engineering, Mechanical engineering, Information Systems or a related quantitative field)

    • A Master's Degree in a quantitative field (Business, Finance, Accounting, Statistics, Economics, Operations Research, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Mechanical engineering, Information Systems or a related quantitative field) or an MBA with a quantitative concentration

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Business or quantitative field such as Finance, Economics, Physical Sciences, Math, Statistics, Engineering

  • 1+ years of experience in evaluating incentive compensation plan designs

  • 1+ years of experience in Statistical model building

  • 1+ years of experience in SQL querying

  • 2+ years of experience in business analysis

  • 1+ years of experience in consulting

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

McLean, VA: $111,200 - $126,900 for Sr. Business Analyst


Richmond, VA: $101,100 - $115,400 for Sr. Business Analyst










Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate's offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
