They are the ones that design and implement new transmission or distribution lines, so have to keep an eye on the clearances needed to keep the high voltage on the line and not arcing to some tree or tower.

Sr Engineer, High Voltage Cable Design 

The Senior Engineer, High Voltage Cable Design will be responsible for designing and analyzing underground high-voltage transmission cable systems, developing engineering solutions, and ensuring compliance with industry standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design complete high-voltage cable systems, including grounding details, bonding schemes, and fiber optic components for voltage classes up to 500kV.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) in the electro-mechanical behavior of high-voltage (HV) and extra-high-voltage (EHV) cable systems.
  • Develop engineering drawings, production specifications, and technical documentation to meet customer requirements.
  • Lead technical presentations and training sessions for clients and industry forums.
  • Support manufacturing processes, including test planning and troubleshooting production issues.
  • Drive Research & Development (R&D) initiatives to enhance cable systems and materials.
  • Ensure compliance with IEEE, IEC, AEIC, and NEC standards.
  • Work closely with sales, project management, and installation teams to provide engineering support.

Qualifications

Must-Haves:

  • 10+ years of proven experience in High Voltage Underground Cable Design.
  • Expertise in Cymcap software for thermal analysis and power transmission calculations.
  • Strong technical knowledge of underground power transmission engineering, including electrical, thermal, and mechanical design.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks) and electrical simulation tools (COMSOL, MATLAB).
  • Ability to interact with customers and lead technical presentations.

Nice-To-Haves:

  • Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Knowledge of power cable testing processes and HV/EHV cable accessories.
  • Experience with programming tools like Visual Basic for spreadsheet automation.
