Seeking a dedicated High School Special Education Teacher to provide differentiated instruction, co-teaching support, IEP development and implementation, and individualized academic intervention for students with disabilities. The Special Education Teacher will collaborate closely with general education teachers, student support professionals, administrators, students, and families to ensure students receive the academic and behavioral supports necessary to succeed. The ideal candidate understands that success in this environment requires more than content instruction. Strong candidates will be relationship-driven educators who can engage students who have experienced educational interruptions while maintaining high academic expectations.

What You’ll Do
  • Co-teach alongside general education teachers and collaboratively develop differentiated lessons.
  • Adapt instruction to meet individual student abilities, learning needs, and IEP requirements.
  • Develop, maintain, and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Establish measurable student goals and track academic and developmental progress.
  • Provide appropriate accommodations, modifications, resources, and individualized supports.
  • Prepare teacher reports for annual and triennial CSE reviews.
  • Participate in Committee on Special Education meetings.
  • Maintain compliance with IDEA, ESSA, and applicable special education requirements.
  • Utilize the New York State Common Core/Next Generation Learning Standards when planning instruction.
  • Use student performance data to inform instructional decisions and interventions.
  • Teach one class per day in addition to assigned push-in/co-teaching classes, as determined by administration.
  • Proctor Regents examinations and ensure students receive their required testing accommodations.
  • Maintain consistent communication with families regarding student performance, attendance, and progress.
  • Participate in professional development activities and staff meetings.
  • Support initiatives designed to strengthen student relationships and overall school culture.
  • Mentor a small group of students through the school's mentoring program.
  • Conduct regular mentor check-ins and maintain communication with families.
  • Follow up with mentees and absent students to encourage attendance and engagement.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, administration, and student support personnel.
  • Perform additional responsibilities assigned by school leadership.
What you'll need:
  • Bachelor's degree or currently in the final year of a Bachelor's degree program in Special Education or a related field that leads to appropriate New York State certification. Master's preferred
  • NYS Special Education Certification 7–12 or K–12.
  • Commitment to ensuring academic success for students with diverse learning needs.
  • Ability to develop and implement IEPs and differentiated instruction.
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Effective written and verbal English communication.
  • Strong professional integrity, initiative, and judgment.
