High Rise information

What is a high rise?

High rise jobs refer to occupations that involve working on tall buildings, typically those with many stories above ground level. These roles can include construction workers, window cleaners, maintenance technicians, and engineers who specialize in high-rise structures. Working in high rise jobs often requires specialized training for safety, the use of harnesses and other protective equipment, and a comfort with heights. Due to the unique challenges and risks involved, these professionals must follow strict safety protocols and regulations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a high rise building manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a High Rise Building Manager, you need strong knowledge of property management, building maintenance, safety regulations, and relevant certifications such as a property management license. Familiarity with building automation systems, maintenance management software, and compliance documentation is typically required. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills help in managing tenants, coordinating staff, and resolving emergencies. These skills ensure the safe, efficient, and profitable operation of high-rise properties while maintaining high tenant satisfaction.

What are some unique challenges faced by high-rise building managers on a daily basis?

High-rise building managers often face challenges related to maintaining safety standards, coordinating with multiple vendors, and responding quickly to maintenance issues in a vertical environment. Managing elevator systems, ensuring compliance with fire safety regulations, and addressing the needs of a large number of tenants or residents require strong organizational skills. Additionally, communication and collaboration with security, maintenance staff, and external contractors are crucial to keeping operations running smoothly.

About the Role:

As an Engineer at DeSimone Consulting Engineering, you’ll contribute to the structural design process across a variety of projects. Working under the guidance of senior team members, you’ll perform structural analysis, assist in design development, and support project delivery from concept through construction. This role offers hands-on experience with technical design, site observations, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams while building a strong foundation for professional growth.

What You'll Do:

  • Model building foundation and superstructure systems and design structural elements.
  • Prepare structural drawings, technical reports, and documentation.
  • Conduct field observations and inspections under senior guidance.
  • Review submittals, shop drawings, and RFIs for accuracy and compliance.
  • Maintain clear records of all design calculations and work products.
  • Communicate effectively with teammates, clients, and management to ensure project success.
  • Support project planning and contribute to internal operations, including timesheets and compliance with safety standards.

 What We're Looking For:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering, or a related field, from an ABET-accredited program and one (1) or more years of relevant coursework in structural analysis and design
  • Internship experience with a structural engineering firm with exposure to mid to high-rise building projects
  • Coursework in concrete, steel, wood and masonry design
  • Must pass basic engineering skills test

    Minimum (Required) Skills:

    • Ability to learn local and national building codes required for project work
    • Knowledge of standard construction practices and the ability to work with contractors to address construction issues
    • Ability to work in Rhino and Revit
    • Strong verbal and written communications skills
    • Detail-oriented with strong people and team skills

    Preferred Qualifications & Skills:

    • Master of Science Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program

    • EIT certification

**This role can be in either Houston or Dallas, TX**

At DeSimone Consulting Engineering, we’re committed to transparency—especially when it comes to compensation. The salary range listed reflects what we believe, in good faith, is a fair and competitive range for this role based on the market and location.
This is a salaried, exempt position with an anticipated base salary range of $72,000–$85,000, depending on experience and qualifications. Most candidates are typically hired near the midpoint of the range, ensuring a balanced and equitable approach across our team.

That said, we recognize exceptional talent. In cases where a candidate brings significantly more experience or specialized expertise than required, we may consider an offer toward the higher end of the range. We’re excited you’re considering DeSimone and look forward to learning more about you.
DeSimone is proud to be an Equal Employment Opportunity employer. We consider all applicants for employment without regard to age, race, color, religion (including beliefs, practices, or absence thereof), sex (including pregnancy, childbirth, or related conditions), gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, ancestry, marital status, disability (mental or physical), genetic information, military or veteran status, or any other status protected by applicable federal, state, or local law.
