Job description

Overview
Are you a hands-on problem solver who enjoys keeping things running smoothly? Auburn University Facilities Management is looking for a dedicated 2nd shift Maintenance Mechanic to support Preventive Maintenance in maintaining and repairing buildings, grounds, and facilities across campus. In this role, you'll be part of a skilled team that ensures our campus remains safe, functional, and welcoming for students, faculty, and staff. You'll tackle a variety of tasks, from routine maintenance to troubleshooting and repairs, making each day different and rewarding. Shift Differential:
Employees regularly assigned to an evening or night shift are eligible to receive a 10% shift differential for all hours worked, provided they work at least four hours between 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. during their scheduled shift.
Responsibilities
  • Performs inspections and routine maintenance, troubleshoots and repairs various building environmental systems and associated systems, including heating, cooling and ventilation systems. Coordinates with supervisors to schedule repairs and maintenance needs.
  • Installs, troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains building plumbing systems including domestic hot and cold and sanitary sewer. Includes, but not limited to; replacing fixtures, repairing leaks, replacing piping, clearing drains. Coordinates with supervisors to schedule repairs and maintenance needs.
  • Installs, troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains building electrical systems including but not limited to; lights, devices, fan motors, and breakers. Provides routine and scheduled maintenance such as replacing bulbs, ballasts, and batteries. Coordinates with supervisors to schedule repairs and maintenance needs.
  • Performs carpentry tasks such as door repair and replacement, window repair and replacement, furniture repair and replacement. Including, but not limited to; replacing locks and hinges, replacing balances and locks, replacing drawer glides and pulls. Coordinates with supervisors to schedule repairs and maintenance needs.
  • Maintains indoor and outdoor surfaces in regard to painting structures and objects. Maintains professional appearance of the facilities extending service life through proper surface prevention and maintenance including but not limited to; cleaning, pressure washing, painting, and material repair and replacement. Coordinates with supervisors to schedule repairs and maintenance needs.
  • Provides assistance in additional variations of building maintenance and repair including but not limited to; brick work, concrete, flooring, and general construction.
  • Communicates and/or collaborates with coworkers and management to make repairs for routine and emergency repairs to ensure jobs are completed in a quality and timely manner.
  • Assist in furniture removal, installation, relocation and setup.

Qualifications
Level I:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Driver's License

Level II:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent and 3 years of journeyman level experience in building maintenance, electrical repair, plumbing repair, carpentry, and/or trades.
