With a passion for creating designs that inspire, AHL delivers innovative and thoughtful designs through careful consideration of each project and client’s history, culture and environment. AHL provides services for projects in all market sectors including high-rise residential, commercial mixed-use, healthcare, education, hospitality, retail, industrial, institutional, and military.
AHL’s office in downtown Honolulu is seeking a Project Architect with retail experience to join our highly creative and collaborative team. The successful candidate for this position will be responsible for management, team, and consultant coordination, and oversight of production and design of fast-paced full build-out and tenant-improvement retail projects.
*Education*
Minimum of a Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university required with an architecture degree or focus preferred. Minimum of seven (7) years substantial experience in all phases of architecture, including three (3) years of substantial project architect and management experience of retail projects.
*Certification*
Architectural registration required. State of Hawaii registration preferred, other states considered. LEED Accreditation preferred. Candidates on active pathway to architectural licensure will also be considered.
*Knowledge/Skills*
Substantial knowledge of retail project systems and procedures for design, management, and production of construction and design development documents.
Thorough knowledge of architectural planning, detailing, drafting, construction materials and methods.
Thorough knowledge of related engineering principles and building codes.
Proficiency in Revit and a working knowledge of AutoCAD.
3D software program experience preferred.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
*Typical Duties*
Manages technical direction, coordination, and production of retail projects including non-retail work as office workloads may change.
Oversees design development and construction documents.
Coordinates design of the project with both outside consultants and in-house project teams.
Coordinates all design and technical details.
Designs and develops technical design concepts, plans, elevations, sections, and details.
Manages the preparation of design drawings by other designers.
Reviews documents for code compliance.
Assists with design and production relating to more complicated areas of construction documents and aids in solutions to general architectural problems.
Acts as job captain in the absence of this position.
