Summary

The Financial Assistance Program (FAP) is designed for physicians or dentists currently in residency training for critical medical or dental specialties. This program provides substantial financial assistance during your residency in exchange for service as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Navy’s medical team upon completion of your training.

Duties & Military Obligation:

Upon completion of your residency, you will serve as an active-duty Navy physician or dentist, delivering care in high-demand specialty areas.

• Active Duty Service Obligation (ADSO): Scholarship recipients incur a minimum ADSO of two (2) years, or one-half year for each half year (or portion thereof) of FAP sponsorship OR whichever is greater.

• Examples: 1 to 2 years of sponsorship = 2-year ADSO. 2 years and 3 months of sponsorship = 2.5-year ADSO. 3 years of sponsorship = 3-year ADSO. Eligibility & Qualifications To be eligible for a FAP scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

• Citizenship: Must be a U.S. citizen (dual citizenship is not permitted).

• Physical Requirements: Must be physically qualified for a commission in the U.S. Navy.

• Educational Requirements: Must be accepted into an accredited residency training program in a critical specialty area needed by the Navy. Benefits

• Annual Grant: A grant of $45,000 paid per year.

• Monthly Stipend: $2,999.00 per month.

• Tuition & Fees: Payment of your required educationally based tuition.

• Books & Equipment: Reimbursement for required books, supplies, and equipment.

• Annual Training: 14 days of paid annual training.

• Health Coverage: Medical and dental health insurance.

• Timeline & Process: Scholarships are awarded on a rolling basis, and applications are accepted throughout the year. The application takes about 12 to 16 weeks to complete. Apply as soon as possible if you are entering or currently in a critical medical or dental residency.
