High Autonomy information

What is high autonomy?

A High Autonomy job is a role where employees have significant independence in making decisions, managing tasks, and organizing their work. These roles typically require self-motivation, problem-solving skills, and the ability to prioritize responsibilities without constant supervision. High Autonomy jobs are common in fields like remote work, research, consulting, and leadership positions. They often provide flexibility in work hours and methods, allowing individuals to optimize productivity and efficiency. However, they also require accountability and strong time-management skills to ensure goals are met effectively.

What does high autonomy mean in a job context?

High autonomy in a job context refers to a work environment where employees have significant independence and control over how they perform their tasks. It means workers can make decisions about their schedules, methods, and priorities with minimal supervision. This type of job often encourages creativity, problem-solving, and personal responsibility, leading to higher job satisfaction and motivation. High autonomy roles are commonly found in creative, research, and leadership positions, but can be present in various industries.

How does a high-autonomy role typically structure collaboration and communication with the rest of the team?

In high-autonomy roles, professionals are trusted to take initiative and manage their own tasks, but effective collaboration and communication remain essential. Team members often use asynchronous tools like project management software, shared documents, and regular check-ins to stay aligned without micromanagement. While you may have significant independence in decision-making and time management, you’ll also participate in team meetings or stand-ups to share progress and coordinate on shared goals. This structure encourages both personal responsibility and open communication, fostering a supportive yet flexible work environment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in a high-autonomy role, and why are they important?

To thrive in a high-autonomy role, you need strong self-management skills, subject matter expertise, and the ability to independently set and achieve goals, typically supported by relevant education or experience in the field. Familiarity with project management tools, collaboration platforms, and time-tracking software is often necessary for remote coordination and task organization. Exceptional communication, proactive problem-solving, and accountability are vital soft skills that help individuals excel when working with minimal supervision. These abilities are important because they ensure productivity, maintain high standards, and drive results in environments that demand independent decision-making.

At MJH Life Sciences our success is measured by your success! If you set your standards high and want to contribute to a winning team, we'll provide you with every opportunity to help grow our company and your career. Our associates come from all backgrounds, sharing one key quality: determination to succeed. We value being Service Focused, having a Passion for Winning, Innovation, Respect, Integrity, and Teamwork. Nothing means more to us than hiring people with these attributes. If you believe you're right for the job, this is the place to prove it!

The Enterprise Platforms team builds the internal systems that connect MJH's business-critical SaaS platforms - Salesforce, Workfront, Workday, Bizzabo, and others - into cohesive, automated workflows. We build API integration layers, internal developer tools, AI-powered automation pipelines, and leadership dashboards that eliminate manual handoffs and surface operational insights across the organization.

As a Product Engineer, you'll own features end-to-end: from understanding the business problem, through designing and implementing the solution, to deploying and operating it in production. You'll work across a modern TypeScript stack spanning Next.js applications, serverless infrastructure on AWS, and CLI tooling for internal teams. This is a high-autonomy role where you'll ship real products - not just write tickets for someone else to build.

We're looking for a systems thinker and a generalist - someone who sees the connections between platforms, processes, and people, and isn't afraid to work across many different technologies to solve the right problem.

What You'll Do

  • Design and build full-stack features across Next.js applications, serverless APIs, and CLI tools - owning the frontend, backend, and infrastructure.
  • Build and maintain integrations with enterprise SaaS platforms (Salesforce, Workfront, Workday, Bizzabo) via REST APIs, OAuth flows, and webhook pipelines.
  • Build tools and services that empower teams to safely interact with enterprise platform data.
  • Design and implement event-driven automation workflows using webhooks, queues, and database-backed state machines.
  • Apply AI and LLM capabilities pragmatically - content extraction, conversational interfaces, agent orchestration - where they solve real workflow problems.
  • Leverage AI-powered developer tools and coding agents (e.g., Claude Code) to accelerate development, automate repetitive tasks, and maintain high code quality.
  • Write and maintain infrastructure-as-code and deploy services using modern cloud tooling.
  • Contribute to internal CLI tools that streamline how teams interact with enterprise platforms from the terminal.

What Sets You Apart

  • You're a systems thinker. You see how platforms, data flows, and business processes connect - and you design solutions that account for the whole picture, not just the immediate task.
  • You're a generalist who goes deep. You're comfortable picking up unfamiliar technologies and APIs quickly, but you also have strong fundamentals in modern web development.
  • You default to shipping. You'd rather deploy a focused v1 than over-plan a v3.
  • You're comfortable working across the full stack - frontend, backend, APIs, and infrastructure - wherever the problem needs you.
  • You have strong opinions about API design, authentication flows, and data modeling, but hold them loosely when the problem demands it.
  • You've integrated with third-party APIs that had incomplete docs, surprising auth requirements, or inconsistent response shapes - and you figured it out.
  • You actively use AI tools to enhance your workflow - you see coding agents and LLMs as force multipliers, not novelties.
  • You can read a business process and see the automation opportunity without being told.
  • You write code for the next person who'll read it, not just for the machine that'll run it.

Why MJH Life Sciences

  • Build products that directly automate and improve how the business operates.
  • High-autonomy environment where engineers own problems end-to-end.
  • Modern stack: TypeScript, Next.js, React, Tailwind, Prisma, Vercel, AWS.
  • A team that embraces AI-powered development tools as part of the everyday engineering workflow.
  • Small, high-impact team where your contributions shape the platform architecture.
  • Culture that values innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field - or equivalent practical experience.

Experience

  • 3-5+ years of professional software engineering experience building and shipping web applications.
  • Strong TypeScript and React proficiency. Experience with Next.js (App Router) strongly preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS services (Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, or similar). Serverless architecture experience preferred.
  • Experience building integrations with third-party REST APIs, including OAuth 2.0 authentication flows (authorization code, client credentials, PKCE).
  • Familiarity with relational databases (PostgreSQL) and an ORM like Prisma or similar.
  • Experience with or interest in enterprise SaaS platforms (Salesforce, Workfront, Workday) is a plus.
  • Comfort with infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions), and containerized deployments.
  • Active use of AI-powered developer tools (Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or similar coding agents). Experience applying LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic) in production workflows is a plus.

Compensation Range:
$100,000 - $120,000 per year, depending on qualifications. Eligible for annual company bonus program or commission incentive based on role. The compensation offered to the candidate selected for this position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills, and professional experience.
