Job description

Position Summary:

Troubleshoot and repair various electrical mechanical rotating equipment based on your skillset and mechanical aptitude.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Understand and follow all Safety processes and procedures including the use of required PPE (Personal Protective Equipment).
  • Read job cards to determine: Job status, work authorization/limitations, estimate, description of problems and/or work scope.
  • Test electro-mechanical rotating equipment to troubleshoot known or suspected problems using various testing methods (AC/DC). Below are some examples.
    1. 3 phase motors
    2. DC motors
    3. Single phase motors
    4. Magnetic clutch units
    5. Gearboxes/Transmissions
    6. Generators and/or Alternators
    7. Compressors and Lobe Blowers
    8. Name brands examples
      • Motors - ABB, Baldor/Reliance, Ideal, Louis Allis, Siemens, US
      • Generators - ABB, Siemens, EMD of GM, Vestas
      • Gearboxes – Reliance, Cone Drive, Eurodrive
      • Compressors – Sutor Built, Carrier, Trane
  • Disassemble equipment noting parts identification, configuration and condition.
  • Ability to operate grinders, drills, cranes, forklift trucks, torches, cut off saws etc.
  • Clean equipment assemblies as needed through various methods and steps, including but not limited to parts washers, steam cleaners and sand blasters.
  • Measure for and note proper replacement parts while correctly submitting a requisition for the needed items.
  • Replace or repair worn or defective mechanical or electrical parts and assemblies, included but limited to: Brushes, bearings, brush holders, gears, seals, impellers, mechanical switches, brakes, clutches, tachometers, fans, etc. as required per the ISS technical traveler.
  • Test repaired apparatus for proper output and/or operation as per ISS or customer specifications.
  • Complete required paperwork for each job accurately and on a timely basis.
  • Operate specialized repair and testing equipment.
    1. Multi-Meter – Used for checking continuity , capacitor testing, diode testing
    2. Megohm Meter - Used to test insulation resistance
    3. Surge Tester – Used to detect insulation breakdowns between circuits.
    4. Hi-pot Tester – Used to detect amount of current leakage through insulation
    5. Motor Test Panels - Testing apparatus at rated voltages for proper operation before and after repair
  • Balance of various types of rotating equipment including but not limited to fans, rotors, armatures, rolls, impellers, blowers, etc.
    1. Using IRD and /or Dynamics balancing machines.
  • Keep work area Safe, clean, and organized.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the Production Manager.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED is required. Trade school, vocational/technical school, military, or on-the-job technician training and/or certifications is preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
