Heor Manager information

What is a HEOR manager?

A HEOR (Health Economics and Outcomes Research) Manager is responsible for demonstrating the value of pharmaceutical products, medical devices, or healthcare interventions through economic models and real-world evidence. They design and conduct studies to assess clinical, economic, and patient-reported outcomes, supporting market access, reimbursement, and pricing strategies. HEOR Managers collaborate with cross-functional teams, including medical affairs, regulatory, and commercial teams, to generate data that informs healthcare decision-making. Their work helps ensure that treatments provide meaningful health benefits while being cost-effective for healthcare systems.

What does a HEOR manager do?

A HEOR Manager typically leads projects focused on generating and communicating evidence about the economic and clinical value of healthcare products or interventions. Their daily tasks often include analyzing real-world and clinical trial data, developing health economic models, designing outcomes studies, and preparing reports or publications for internal and external stakeholders. HEOR Managers regularly collaborate with medical affairs, market access, and regulatory teams to align research objectives with organizational goals. They may also interact with external partners such as academic researchers and healthcare payers to support reimbursement and policy discussions. This role offers a dynamic work environment with opportunities for cross-functional teamwork and significant impact on product strategy.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a HEOR manager?

To thrive as a HEOR (Health Economics and Outcomes Research) Manager, a strong background in health economics, epidemiology, statistics, or a related field is essential, typically supported by an advanced degree such as a master's or PhD. Proficiency with data analysis tools (such as SAS, R, or Excel), familiarity with health outcomes models, and understanding of real-world evidence methodologies are commonly expected, and certification in health economics or related areas is advantageous. Excellent project management, stakeholder engagement, and communication skills help HEOR Managers effectively translate complex findings and lead cross-functional initiatives. These capabilities are critical for generating actionable insights that inform healthcare decision-making and demonstrate the value of medical products to payers and regulatory bodies.
