Senior Material Handler Library of Congress | Washington, DC Pay Rate: $20.52 per hour + $5.09 per hour Health & Welfare (H&W) Benefit Zimmerman Associates, Inc. is seeking a Senior Material Handler to support an onsite project at the Library of Congress in Washington, DC. This role supports Team Leads, the Project Manager, and other project stakeholders by coordinating daily material-handling activities, maintaining accurate records, and helping ensure assigned tasks are completed accurately, safely, and within established deadlines on a production-based contract.
Responsibilities - Support Team Leads and the Project Manager with daily operations, project objectives, and production deadlines.
- Coordinate logistics for shifting, shelving, staging, transport, inventory, and supply-delivery activities.
- Conduct inventory verification and track the movement of library materials.
- Prepare stacks, shelving areas, and materials for collection-shifting projects.
- Transport, stage, organize, and distribute library materials as required.
- Complete collection shifting, shelving, and shelf-reading assignments accurately and efficiently.
- Monitor workflow progress and assist in meeting project deadlines.
- Provide guidance and operational support to Material Handlers.
- Maintain accurate inventory, production, and completion records.
- Perform quality control checks to ensure proper material placement and organization.
- Follow library standards, material-handling procedures, and safety protocols.
- Maintain clean, safe, and organized work areas and staging locations.
Qualifications - High school diploma required; Associate degree preferred.
- One to two years of experience performing similar work in a large library environment.
- Experience receiving, sorting, retrieving, reshelving, organizing, shifting, and transporting library materials throughout a library system.
- Knowledge of Library of Congress call numbers, the Library of Congress Classification System, and shelf-reading practices.
- Ability to clearly communicate procedures to other contract staff.
- Ability to review completed work and perform quality control checks.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
Physical Requirements - Ability to move throughout the work location and lift, push, pull, carry, or hold items weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stoop and lift materials from the floor and bottom shelves.
- Ability to push carts and trucks weighing up to 200 pounds.
- Ability to work in cool and dusty environments.
