Job description

The University of Pikeville (UPIKE), the Leading University in Central Appalachia is actively seeking candidates for an Assistant Athletic Trainer in the Sports Medicine Department. The successful athletic trainer is expected to perform the sports medicine duties required for multiple sports teams of the University of Pikeville.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide coverage for athletic practice sessions and game events, both home and away.
  • Assist with the assignment of sport coverage for all sports medicine staff.
  • Supervise work-study and scholarship students helping in the sports medicine department.
  • Recruitment of scholarship students to assist the sports medicine department.
  • Maintain the sports medicine rooms as needed in order to provide the best sports medicine experience possible for our student athletes.
  • Perform administrative duties as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Master's degree or higher in Athletic Training.
  • Certified by the National Athletic Training Association - Board of Certification.
  • Must be familiar with operating modalities and sports-related equipment, e.g., estim/ultrasound machine, ice machine, whirlpool, water boys.
  • Must be self-sufficient.
  • Must be able to manage and direct the sports medicine staff.
  • Must have excellent communication skills.
  • Must be familiar with Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel.
  • Must be able to perform simple calculations.
  • Must be familiar with conducting research on the Web, as well as creating online travel arrangements.
