Job description

Plaisted Companies, Inc. is looking for a driven, relationship-focused sales professional to grow our Golf Course and Sports Field Soils product line. This is a high-value, low-competition niche: you’ll be the go-to resource for golf course superintendents, builders, and turf managers who depend on premium sands, root zones, and specialty soil blends to keep their courses performing at their best.

We’re looking for a salesperson first. What matters most is your track record of building relationships, managing a territory, and closing business—golf industry or turf experience is a strong plus, and we’ll help you build it with hands-on product and industry training.

This role is primarily focused on the golf industry, with additional opportunities supporting sports fields and turf markets. If you’re competitive, self-motivated, and want to own a specialized product line with real earning potential and room to grow, we’d love to meet you.

Why You’ll Want This Role
  • A defined territory and an established, well-respected brand behind you — not a cold start.
  • A specialized, high-value product line with less competition than commodity sales roles.
  • Company vehicle provided for daily travel, laptop/iPad, plus a competitive base salary of $90,000–$120,000.
  • Real career growth: advancement opportunities as you build the book of business.
  • A team that invests in you — you’ll be trained on the technical side, so your sales instincts can take the lead.
Key Responsibilities Sales & Business Development
  • Serve as the primary, face-to-face contact for all industry professionals in your assigned geographic region.
  • Increase sales by winning new clients and selling more products or services to existing accounts.
  • Actively prospect new leads while deepening relationships with existing accounts.
  • Assess customer needs and recommend the right product solutions to drive repeat business.
  • Provide product samples, jobsite support, and technical guidance that keep customers coming back.
  • Represent Plaisted Companies at trade shows, field days, and industry events.
Product & Industry Expertise
  • Develop in-depth knowledge of Plaisted golf course materials, including sands, root zones, soil blends, and specialty products.
  • Stay current on golf course maintenance practices, construction trends, and turf performance standards.
  • Build working knowledge of sports field materials and applications (secondary focus).
  • Become the trusted advisor customers turn to for performance, durability, and long-term results.
Requirements
  • Proven sales experience with a track record of growing accounts and closing new business (required).
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Self-motivated and comfortable managing a territory independently.
  • Confident presenting to customers, in the field, and at trade shows and industry events.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel locally daily, with occasional out-of-state travel (company vehicle provided).
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Agronomy, Horticulture, or a related field preferred.
  • Golf Superintendent experience or golf course management background required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with golf course construction materials (sand, root zones, drainage, etc.).
  • Exposure to sports field or athletic turf markets.
  • Sales experience in golf, turf, or landscape materials.
  • A strong technical curiosity and interest in learning the science behind turf performance.
  • 100% health insurance coverage for employees.
  • 12 medical insurance plans are available.
  • Health Account options: FSA and HSA.
  • Vision insurance.
  • Hearing aid program.
  • Life insurance.
  • 401(k) retirement plan with company match.
  • Paid time off.
  • Holiday pay.
  • $1,500 Employee Referral Program.
  • Year-end bonuses.
  • Employee Assistance Program.
  • Legal Shield/ID Shield.
  • Company vehicle.
  • Company events, including cookouts, dinners, and more!
