Title: TEMPORARY WORKER - MAINTENANCE HELPER
Position Type: Non-Exempt
Primary Function:
Perform manual labor associated with maintenance of buildings and vehicles and other equipment, including cleaning of buildings and vehicles, and moving furniture and equipment as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • At least 16 years of age.
  • Knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment.
  • Sufficient strength, agility, and dexterity and oral and written communication skills required to perform all performance responsibilities, including lifting fifty (50) pounds and working from ladders and scaffolding.
  • Ability to work out of doors in a variety of temperatures and climate conditions.
  • Ability to travel to more than one work location in the course of the workday.
  • Ability to operate mechanical cleaning equipment.
  • Ability to follow simple oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with others.
  • Be dependable, honest, and trustworthy.
Performance Responsibilities:
  • Move furniture and equipment.
  • Wash school busses.
  • Paint walls.
  • Dustmop, sweep, wet mop, spray-buff floors.
  • Vacuum and clean rugs and carpet.
  • Dust and clean walls, doors, windows, lockers, and woodwork and other above floor surfaces.
  • Remove trash.
  • Dust, clean, and polish furniture.
  • Scrub, strip, and refinish floors.
  • Wash windows, walls, vents, doors, and lockers.
  • Shampoo carpet.
  • Weed flower beds.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Head Custodian, Manager of Building Maintenance, Manager of Custodial Services, and Manager of Vehicle Maintenance.
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
  • Can climb a ladder and lift up to 60 pounds from the ground and 35 pounds above the head.
  • Can stand for extended periods of time
  • Can understand and follow written and verbal instruction
  • Exhibits the manual dexterity and mental alertness needed to operate tool and/or other equipment

In the event of severe weather conditions or emergency situations, the School Division may suspend normal operations and/or cancel classes. If this occurs, all employees deemed essential must remain at or report to their work as soon as conditions reasonably permit. The designation of essential depends on an employee's duties as well as the circumstances for suspension of normal operations.
Reports to: Manager of Building Maintenance, Manager of Custodial Services and/or Manager of Vehicle Maintenance. Terms of Employment: Temporary, as stated in personnel action. Part-time work per day based on mutual agreement between employee availability and division need. Salary according to School Board Pay Plan. Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of non-licensed personnel.
