Job description

Student Services Assistant - Help Desk

Eastern Shore Community College is a member of the Virginia Community College System. The College serves the residents of Accomack County and Northampton County as a two-year institution of higher learning. Operating under policies established by the State Board for Community Colleges and the Eastern Shore Community College Board, the college is financed primarily with state funds, supplemented by contributions from the two counties and the Eastern Shore Community College Foundation. The Student Services Help Desk Assistant will provide help desk services which includes receiving visitors in the student services lobby, directing them to appropriate offices, assisting students with the electronic application, providing general information, answering phone calls, scheduling advising and placement testing, and assisting Student Services offices on a daily basis.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Excellent oral and written communications skills
  • Ability to maintain good rapport with students and the public
  • Ability to learn and use the college's student information system
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism
  • Excellent computer skills including working knowledge of Microsoft suite programs, Google suite programs, Zoom, Outlook, and other software at an intermediate level.
  • Experience creating, organizing, and maintaining shared calendars and shared documents.
  • Ability to scan electronic records.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task in a fast-paced student environment while paying attention to details and completing tasks efficiently and accurately.

Additional Considerations:

  • Experience working in an office setting, preferred.
  • Experience working with databases, preferred.
