Job description

Automotive Painter

The Automotive Painter is a critical member of our production team, responsible for keeping vehicles moving efficiently through the paint process while maintaining the highest standards of quality, safety, and workmanship.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Review the repair order for each vehicle before beginning work
  • Inspect vehicles and parts scheduled for painting
  • Prepare vehicles for painting, including lifting, sanding, taping, masking, cleaning, and priming
  • Clean and wipe down vehicles before painting
  • Mix paints, primers, sealers, and other materials according to manufacturer specifications
  • Apply high-quality primers, sealers, basecoats, and clearcoats
  • Apply 2-stage and 3-stage colors
  • Prime, seal, and apply jams to replacement parts
  • Maintain proper paint quality while meeting acceptable cost-per-paint-labor-hour standards
  • Maintain and properly clean painting equipment, spray guns, mixing areas, and paint booths
  • Identify, safely handle, and properly dispose of materials in accordance with OSHA and EPA requirements
  • Work closely with other departments to ensure quality repairs and on-time vehicle delivery
  • Keep track of assigned vehicles and help maintain production schedules and delivery dates
  • Follow all MAACO, Atticus Franchise Group, and paint manufacturer requirements and procedures
  • Maintain high-quality standards to minimize defects and meet or exceed company expectations
  • Communicate effectively with management and team members to plan and complete quality repairs on a variety of vehicles, including cars and trucks
  • Participate in ongoing I-CAR ProLevel and other required industry and company training
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
  • Efficiently complete assigned work while maintaining company productivity and quality standards


Physical Requirements

The Automotive Painter must be able to:

  • Stand and walk for extended periods
  • Bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and reach as needed
  • Lift and maneuver vehicle parts and materials
  • Perform repetitive preparation and painting tasks
  • Safely use required tools, equipment, and personal protective equipment


Daily Area Cleanup & Maintenance

Paint Mixing Area

  • Keep the area clean, organized, and properly stocked

Spray Booth

  • Check balance gauge
  • Remove debris
  • Sweep floors
  • Blow out or vacuum the interior

Drying Enclosure/Cure Oven

  • Sweep floor
  • Wipe down reflectors

Spray Guns

  • Clean and properly balance spray guns

Weekly/Monthly Cleanup & Maintenance

Spray Booth

  • Vacuum/blow off exterior, top, and glass
  • Scrape and/or remove overspray from floors
  • Clean interior lighting glass
  • Touch up white interior walls and spot-paint overspray as needed

Drying Enclosure/Cure Oven

  • Vacuum top
  • Inspect air-intake filters and replace as necessary
  • Wash down interior walls

Spray Guns

  • Clean guns in the gun washer
  • Complete teardown and thorough cleaning as required

Compensation


Pay is based on flagged hours at 35% of repair profit or a set weekly rate.
